Shoot.... Shovel.... Shut-up...

With all of the "protected" species down here, yes, but not necessary with some non-game and/or invasive species such as this. As long as you're legally using the firearm at hand, you can shoot them all day long with no consequences whatsoever.

Heck in Florida we can hunt hogs without a license, using a 10.5 inch short barrel rifle, at night, with a 30 round magazine.

That sounds like a lot of fun.

I just want to take advantage of this conversation to point out to anyone reading, always be careful with using NFA weapons, even for home defense or hunting.

A lawyer friend who deals in the field pointed out something scary. Say you see somebody about to steal your motorcyle out front. You go out, and confront them with a 20” barreled semi AR-15. They can call the cops, claim they were about to ask for directions and say that you you were menacing them. If the cop doen’t like guns, you’ll get charged with menacing, a relatively minor charge. You may even be found guilty if the perps are believable enough in court. It’s a small charge, the penalty isn’t that bad, and you probably won’t even get time.

Go out with the same AR with a properly papered 14” barrel, and that minor menacing charge comes with a 30 year mandatory adder-on for committing a felony with an NFA type weapon (SBR). It was deigned to disuade bank robbers from using machine guns, but according to my friend, it applies to all felony charges - even minor ones. It even affects home defense issues where the speed with which things unfold, unusal circumstances and murky memories can cause legal issues.

In a scenario where penalties are already high enough, his take was NFA weapons are best left to the range.

Just an FYI - government is not your friend. Keep your ass covered.
