Lawmaker who endorsed Romney now behind draft-Perry movement
The Daily Caller ^ | July 1, 2011 | Alex Pappas

A California lawmaker who endorsed Mitt Romney for president has now signed a letter asking Texas Gov. Rick Perry to get in the 2012 race.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Assemblyman Paul Cook, a Yucaipa Republican, joined more than 20 people in signing the letter. The paper added that “more potential Romney defectors may sign the letter in coming days, according to a GOP source familiar with the meeting.” (GOP candidates’ fundraising starts slowly)

Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, is viewed by many as the closest thing to the front-runner in the crowded race.

Palin and Bachmann are capable of it, but I’m not sure Perry is.

Sarah Palin thinks Rick Perry is capable of it too.

“He walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks by his guns – and you know how I feel about guns,” she said.

“Not every child is born into ideal circumstances, but every life is sacred,” Palin said in the mail appeal. “Rick Perry knows this – it is at the core of his being.:

“I think he would be a fine candidate,” she said. “We have a lot in common. I really like him.” [guess who?]

We could do a lot worse than Rick Perry.

Amen. In the last Presidential election season, a full 20 years after Perry turned Republican (he was a Demonrat all through the glorious Reagan years, and served as campaign chairman for sociopath Al Gore), Perry supported...thrice-married, pro-abortion, Rudy Giuliani for President, then fell back to RINO John McCain when Rudy dropped out. But we are supposed to believe this guy is a deeply-convinced social and economic conservative, just because Texas is a conservative state? Palin, Bachmann, and Cain have never been anything but conservative, while Perry was a lifelong Demonrat until Texas turned conservative. He continues to pander to Hispanics by softness on border security and support of Texas' subsidy of illegals attending state universities.

The late Lloyd Bentsen, another "conservative Democrat," was a war hero in WW 2, flying bombers on dangerous missions and surviving being shot down twice. That did not prevent him from becoming pro-abortion once he became a national Demonrat.

George McGovern also flew bombers in WW 2. G. W. Bush flew dangerous jets, yet turned out to be a big-govt. "compassionate conservative."

The sad fact is that serving in the military is no guarantee of dedication to the principles of Constitutional limited govt.

Oh yeah? I guess that's why Perry supported thrice-married, cross-dressing, pro-abortion Rudy Giuliani for President in 2007?

Sarah Palin has been known to make mistakes. She supported RINO McCain in the AZ Senatorial primary.

That’s right! Party people, country clubbers, beltway boys, media, elites and amnesty lovers, libs, socialists and RINOs are crazy about Perry — conservatives, not so much.

“Freedom Works” is Dick Armey’s outfit. They aren’t always on the same page as us conservative FReepers either.

Buyer’s regret?

For God’s sake, the Supreme Court is at stake in 2012. One more term with Obama and it is gone.

Any of our candidates - Perry, Cain, Pawlenty, Bachmann, and yes Romney - is vastly preferable to Obama.

Who do you want making Supreme Court appointments with the county literally in the balance.

Only two of the people on your list are people the I will vote for under any circumstance.

The ballot box is plan B.
Nice if it works, but not worth compromise.

You want a shot at the ballot box, you aren’t getting it with one of the RINOs. Not only is it carved in stone that we won’t vote for one, we will call their supporters on their crap.

Perry can not carry Texas any more than Gore could carry Tennessee.
That kind of lukewarm slug is your plan?

It is disturbing to see people pulling their support from Romney and throwing it to Perry. This implies that Perry is the same sort of establishment RINO that Romney is. I know you keep saying that Perry is a dyed-in-the-wool card-carrying conservative. But this is a bad development if Romney supporters are crossing over to Perry. This tells me a lot.

Yes, I know you swear on a stack of bibles that Perry is a true conservative. Yes, I get that. But when Romney supporters are voting with their feet to go to Perry, that makes me very, very, very nervous, skeptical, and suspicious of his conservative credentials.

Very suspicious. This is a very bad development.

>>> Perry - the country-clubbers’ second choice.

I’m sorry nobody ever invited you to join a country club. But if it salves the pain, you aren’t missing anything. Really.
