Conservative GOP primary voters likely to like Perry's positions
Star-Telegram ^ | July 2, 2011 | Dave Montgomery

AUSTIN - The just-concluded 82nd Legislature has armed Gov. Rick Perry with a host of red-meat issues to present to conservative Republican voters if he jumps into the wide-open presidential primary race.

But analysts say some of those issues could carry consequences down the road in reaching broader constituencies in a general election match-up against President Barack Obama.

Texas' longest-serving governor burnished his conservative profile with legislative victories that included a no-tax budget with $15 billion in cuts, property rights protections, voter ID legislation and a bill requiring sonograms before abortions.

Two other Perry-backed issues - an immigration measure to ban so-called sanctuary cities and legislation to prohibit intrusive airport pat-downs - could also enhance the Texas governor's stature among conservative activists though they ultimately died in the Legislature.

Even without declaring, Perry is becoming an early favorite among Tea Party activists for his adherence to limited government and his verbal assaults on Washington. Sabato's Crystal Ball, an online analysis headed by much-quoted political observer Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia, places Perry in the top tier of 11 announced and unannounced candidates. The Texas governor ranked number three, behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Congresswoman Michele Bachmann of Minnesota...........

Dude it isn’t a race track nor is one being built. It is for a F1 race to be held in Austin. What do you think the Major Events Trust Fund is used for?

Interesting, the guy is an environmentalist? Environmentalists are likely to be subversive, like say, Al Gore? Rick Perry: Al Gore's gone to Hell

Perry does not believe there is valid scientific proof of anthropogenic global warming. He has said several times that there is no scientific consensus on the issue.

On September 7, 2007 Perry gave a speech to California Republicans. He said, "Virtually every day another scientist leaves the global warming bandwagon. ... But you won't read about that in the press because they have already invested in one side of the story."

You are his strongest supporter here.

What are Perry’s present positions on:

1. gardasil and any drug FORCED upon the people

2. kickbacks to politicians for #1

3. deaths and tumors resulting from #1

As with Palin, I’m waiting to see if Perry even announces. If he doesn’t, then I’ll assume he’s either not interested even if able to win, or his advisors are telling him that there are reasons not to do so having to do with not being able to win.

I’m thinking he’ll get in, and if he does and Palin doesn’t, then Perry will be high on my list.

There are only 2 candidates who would be like having Obama: Romney, Huntsman.

There are 2 candidates who are dead on arrival: Gingrich, Huntsman, and Giuliani.

Those who are those who are very or mostly conservative: Palin, Santorum, Bachman, Perry, Pawlenty, and Cain. I would vastly prefer any of these to Obama.

Of those 6, only Palin and Perry have the organization and/or base support that would make a victory very possible. Palin is very conservative and Perry is moderately conservative, but conservative in the areas that matter most to me. Both are far better than Obama.

Neither are yet running.

Of those conservatives actually running, I’d suggest that Bachman and Pawlenty have the best chances of winning.

The HPV vaccine was always an Opt-Out program.

90 days after the EO Perry let stand legislation to undo the EO.

As a Texan, I am seriously disappointed that Perry didn’t force the Sanctuary City issue, as this may have been our only chance. He’s not a good choice for Freepers

Interesting rundown. Thanks.

TURN OUT! is the ticket.

If it's a close vote, the Dems win using voter fraud.

A lot of states (with their shiny 2010 GOP legislature majorities) are finally getting Voter ID passed -- Gov Perry just signed that bill in Texas.

TURN OUT and a strong message is critical.

I believe Perry has that message and the stump style to deliver it.

Governor Rick Perry's Speech at Red State Conference in 2010 (Video and Notes)

In Speech Perry:

Reads the 10th Amendment – What a beautiful succinct, simple statement – words penned for a time such as this…… (nice list of rights being taken away and by whom).

Perry notes: Republicans lost because you couldn’t tell the difference between a Republican and a Democrat… (expands)

Growing mood in the country – passion across the state and when I look at Glenn Beck’s event in Washington D.C. and other events, it warms the cockles of my heart……”

Texas has led but it’s been a hell of a struggle against Washington D.C. – they must trust the people, they don’t trust the people.

Governing isn’t that hard…

First – Don’t spend all the money!

TX legislature meets 140 days every OTHER year!

TARP – Stimulus – great concern in Texas, country, world --- small businesses don’t know what shoe will fall next – what regulations – costs – job loss. Health care bill – cost – loss of access to health care…..

Second: Fair and predictable tax and regulatory policy…..

Third: Legal system that does not allow for over suing. Sweeping tort reform 2003 in TX has paid HUGE dividends. Went from Jack-pot Justice (legal hell hole) to 60% more doctors practicing in Texas from 7 years ago (expands more on this) – about access to health care.

Last step: Loser Pays tells them, you better have a case. If frivolous – fishing for settlement – they’ll foot the bill! (since this speech, Perry signed it into law)

Haley Barbour told him, If "Loser Pays" passes you can put turnstiles on the TX border and charge people to come into your state!”

THAT’S IT! Put those 4 principles into place and tell government to get the hell out of the way. – Rick Perry

Er, the "conservatives" like Perry's stance on forcing 11 year olds to have Gardasil (before his large $$$ donation); or his "Dream Act" for Texas???

Nope, I think what "conservatives" like are the many things the TX legislature has passed and Perry signed into law - NOT Perry himself but maybe the MSM realize just how moderate he is, so they are pushing behind the scenes so that they can trumpet his moderate/liberal stances to defeat him in the General Election (a tactic they've polished over the decades.)

“Hold onto your hat again..... There’s a new kid in the Race; Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter. He is young, very smart, has a sharp wit (would devastate Obama in a Debate) and is Conservative. He could be the one we’ve all been waiting for; he could be our 2012 Ronald Reagan.”

Maybe not. He voted to end Bush-era tax cuts and has supported organized labor and government bailouts of both General Motors and Chrysler.

The TX Legislature meets for 140 days every 2 years. Perry called them back into a special session to address "Sanctuary Cities. The Senate did a "take it or leave it bill" and left it on the House's desk and adjourned. The House leadership was pissed at the Senate's posture and they laughed at the representative pushing it in the House and adjourned too. What do you propose Perry was supposed to do then?

“First: it’s not $250,000,000.00. The article I posted says it is 10 times less — $25,000,000. (That’s quite an error on your part trumandogz.)”

I probably a good idea if you would actually read beyond the headlines.

Now, if you were to actually read a full article regarding the Austin Formula One track, you would find that the State of Texas has committed $25,000,000 a year for ten years.

$25,000,000 x 10 = $250,000,000

(That’s quite an error on your part)

According to the lawsuit, Combs twice sent letters to a local F1 promoter saying the state was committed to paying $25 million per year over 10 years to hold the race in Texas.

“According to the lawsuit, Combs twice sent letters to a local F1 promoter saying the state was committed to paying $25 million per year over 10 years to hold the race in Texas.”

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/racing/wires/06/23/Formula.1.Texas.ap/index.html

“Second: I expect this Formula One race track is going to generate a huge amount of money for Texas and Austin.”

If you suspect that the Formula One race track is going to produce such a huge amount of money, why is it that you do not invest your own money into the project?

If this project is going to return such a profit, why is it that they do not raise that $250,000,000 from Private Investors?

Now, why is it that you support Perry’s Texas Stimulus Programs that give hundreds of millions of tax dollars to foreign business interests?

We have given Perry 10 years to fix the illegal alien problem. I can honestly say there are parts of Houston I will not venture into due to a brazen “anti-gringo” attitude I see. Perry has lost control.

Gov. Perry and The Texas Dream Act

[snip]

It’s important to point out that there is a huge difference in the Texas Dream Act and the The Dream Act that was pushed in Congress and failed. The Dream Act in Congress was full of all kinds of goodies other than allowing children of illegals to receive in state tuition. The Texas Dream Act was focused only on that. I happen to agree with The Texas Dream Act, and so did everyone in the Senate in Texas. It passed with ZERO “no” votes. Add to that, it has been proven to be successful.

These are a few things you need to know about the Texas Dream Act. The child has to have lived in Texas the three years leading up to high school graduation. These students are given no special treatment in getting into Texas colleges and universities. They must get in on their own merit. They are paying the tuition (with or without financial aid). It’s estimated that these students make up about 1% of those entering college.

[snip]

Most of us agree that border control MUST be dealt with first. The problem with all other efforts on this issue in the past is that the borders were not sealed. If there is anyone who we can trust to do that it is Gov. Perry (if he decides to run for President). He knows what goes on down at the border. He has gone there many times. He knows what needs to be done. There is no doubt in my mind that if he were President, he would seal our borders. But Perry also understands Hispanic outreach. [snip]

Karl in a Corner
http://www.opednews.com/articles/genera_scott_ho_080408_karl_in_a_corner.htm
Second, Rove’s opponents would regularly find that they had suddenly become the target
of a criminal investigation, and details concerning the investigation would be
aggressively fanned to the press. Rove mastered this technique in a contest
for the Texas Agriculture Commissioner’s post that he managed for now-Governor Rick Perry.

It Started in Texas: Karl Rove’s Political Prosecutions
http://www.harpers.org/archive/2007/07/hbc-90000569
1. Rove was hired to run the campaign of Rick Perry, the current governor,
for the powerful Texas office of Commissioner of Agriculture, then held by
Democrat Jim Hightower. Shortly thereafter, it was clear that a major
FBI investigation had been launched into the workings of the Texas Agriculture
Department (TDA), focusing on Hightower and his senior lieutenants, who had been
pursuing a populist, anti-corporate agriculture and pro-small-farmer agenda.

Jim Hightower talks about his new book, “Thieves in High Places: They’ve Stolen Our Country and it’s Time to Take it Back”
http://www.buzzflash.com/interviews/03/08/21_hightower.html
HIGHTOWER: Rick Perry, back then (currently Texas Governor), was his client, so to speak,
and Perry had been recruited. He was sort of a nothing Texas legislator who had been brought
in — again as an affable fellow without any brain muscle. Perry was essentially sent to
wander around out in West Texas during the campaign so he would be out of the way,
while Rove worked this FBI agent and raised money from the chemical industry
and other corporate interests that opposed me. Rove had George Bush go on
television against me. Then Rove ran a series of television ads that
established a new low in negative advertising.

For example, they showed a long-haired guy setting a flag on fire,
and throwing it on the ground. And then my picture came up out of the fire, and said
“Hightower supports flag burning,” which, of course, I don t. But it doesn t matter,
you know. I had to go around answering: “Why do you support flag burning?”
Rove had another ad of me campaigning with Jesse Jackson, who I supported in 1988
in the Presidential campaign. And Rove ran this ad that essentially was a smear
on Jackson and then tying me to him. The ad so angered the Black Caucus in the State Legislature
that they convened their own press conferences in Houston and Dallas to assail it. But again it was too late.
All this was happening in the last three weeks of the election. So, I mean, that s just who the guy is.
