Does Constitution Still Matter?
IBD Editorials ^ | July 1, 2011 | The great THOMAS SOWELL

Posted on 07/01/2011 4:13:58 PM PDT by Kaslin

The Fourth of July may be just a holiday for fireworks to some people. But it was a momentous day for the history of this country and the history of the world.

Not only did July 4, 1776, mark American independence from England, it marked a radically different kind of government from the governments that prevailed around the world at the time — and for thousands of years before.

The American Revolution was not simply a rebellion against the King of England, it was a rebellion against being ruled by kings in general. That is why the opening salvo of the Revolution was called "the shot heard round the world."

Autocratic rulers and their subjects heard that shot — and things that had not been questioned for millennia were now open to challenge. As the generations went by, more and more autocratic governments around the world proved unable to meet that challenge.

Some clever people today ask whether the U.S. has really been "exceptional." You couldn't be more exceptional in the 18th century than to create your fundamental document by opening with the momentous words, "We the people."

Those words were a slap in the face to those who thought themselves entitled to rule, and who regarded the people as human livestock, destined to be shepherded by their betters. To this day, elites who think that way — including many among the intelligentsia as well as political messiahs — find the Constitution a pain because it stands in the way of their imposing their will and presumptions on the rest of us.

Thanks for the ping, Kas.

This is a very good piece by Dr. Sowell and the list was pinged to it with the title “July 4th.”

The tree of Liberty needs to be watered from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Thomas Jefferson 3rd president of US (1743 - 1826).

One wonders if there is enough left to fulfill this promise. I hope so.

If you feel any Federal program is warranted, then you dont believe in the constitution.

Outside of the enumerated powers outline under art 1 sec 8 the federal government has no power.

“No. Courts have effectively gutted the 4th and 5th amendments, and anyone who tries to bring up the tenth is labeled a kook and marginalized.”

You’re right, of course. It’s up to “we the people” to elect representatives to impeach, remove and hang the black-robed elitists, communists and slugs.

We elected more than 700 patriots to state legislatures this past election, giving us complete control of 26 states. And they’re throwing monkey wrenches into the federal fascist machinery with hard rock resolutions and 10th amendment laws. We have a good start. The state legislatures are where our future leaders will come from, generating ideas and manpower to overthrow the criminal fascist syndicate occupying Washington. These state legislators are following the Founder’s blueprint.

We have a country to rebuild.

George Washington Farewell Address
Categories: Constitution
Date: 1796
If in the opinion of the people the distribution or modification of the constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way which the Constitution designates. But let there be no change by usurpation; for though this in one instance may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed. The precedent must always greatly overbalance in permanent evil any partial or transient benefit which the use can at any time yield.

It’s fun, prepping, isn’t it? My 5 year old granddaughter is looking forward to making dilly beans. I’ve promised her she’ll be a big part of the ‘production’ of dilly beans. She’s so excited. She gobbles them up. She ate up our last jar this past March, and was disappointed that was the end!

Is so much fun reliving the life of a 5 year old.

So, another canning season is in full swing! I’m loving it! I can hardly wait for this season to put our pantry in the better prepped category!

All you preppers, we have about 30 pint size jars of strawberry jam left from last year. It’s primo strawberry picking time here. Should I do more jam? I’m leaning no. Hubby gobbles up strawberry jam. I don’t want to run out. I think we’ll be fine, but, I’m on the edge. What do you all think?

Gutted, shredded, abused, ignored, the Constitution is still there and still means what it says.

And the way to rebuild it is to start by organizing at the most basic levels, the precinct and county level. But, I run into people all the time who think we can change things overnight by voting out the people presently at the top. We must teach civics to the people instead of social studies so they will understand how the system works.

It has always meant what it says...but nobody (not nobody, but you get my drift) is listening.

Amen, brother! Preach it.

If people expect a reasonable and peacable life, you must clean out your local neighborhoods first. The Founders understood that. It’s why we can read about the founding of our country and see terms like “committees of safety” and “broadsheets” and “committes of correspondence.”

We can use these concepts and re-invent them for the 21st century.

People are listening!

There is a resurgence of patriotism. Conservatives are listening, and we’re yearning for another Reagan. We’re spreading the word. The times are different. Urban cities are lost, I don’t know how we can revive them, but everyone else is on on board. Look at the country, the only counties supporting dems are the moochers. This won’t last.

Said a mouthful there. How many more have to die only so the politicians can have it both ways?

And all Presidents, Senators, Congressman, Judges, State Legislators and Officers in service to the governments must take oaths or affirmations to our Constitution.

Some actually understand their oaths are to the Constitution and not the Scotus.

Thank me for your tag.

“Question: “Does Constitution Still Matter?”

Bet your boots it does.

Come and join us in the states. That’s where patriot power is located. I won’t be presumptious to suggest a role for you.

Its supposed to matter but sadly it doesnt. Look at the courts. It doesnt matter what the constitution does or doesnt say about an issue, what matters is who nominated the judge to the position. Clinton, carter or obama nominee and the result is a foregone conclusion and completely predictable. Theyll merely conjure some foolishness to fit their agenda. The same can be said for our side but possibly to a lesser extent.

The Right took a beating in the courts this week with Obamacares DICTATES to purchase insurance, U of Michigan told they should show preferences for minorities, and the South Dakota 3 day abortion waiting period all going against us. Im disheartened that the only thing one side of an issue needs to know in order to win is who appointed the judge and shop around until you find your puppet justice.

Its difficult to celebrate anything this 4th because this experiment in liberty and self governance is clearly coming to a close.

If obama is reelected we can kiss the backstop for much of this leftist dictatorial rubbish, the USSC, goodbye. Scalia, Thomas and yes, Kennedy are all potentials to hang it up. You think the Warren court was liberal you aint seen nothing yet! Because of that, no matter who our nominee is, I feel obligated to vote for him or her.
