California – Lawmakers Whine.. Win – Back Pay..

So much for the will of the people. Remember Prop 25? (Voters approved Pro 25: No budget – no pay for lawmakers.)

And remember how pleased some folks where when State Controller John Chiang said he was ‘not’ going to pay lawmakers because the budget wasn’t signed and wasn't balanced?

Oh.. well.. forget about all that.

Lawmakers complained and so, now John Chiang’s office says basically .. Hey.. all’s well that ends well. And he’s now restoring their lost pay..

Not only that but in the last hour of the bill they added a provision that teachers cannot be laid off to satisfy education budget cuts.

They sure are keeping this quiet in the media though. I saw it mentioned on the KVIE website a little while ago. Can't find it anywhere else including the Sacramento Bee.

Can anyone verify?

There have been several articles and an editorial in the Bee on this.

When you control the vote, you control the voters

What, actions have consequences? NOT for liberals! Just a technicality, so who will sue to enforce the law as written?

Any guesses at John Chiang's chances at reelection?

No chance at reelection. This is his second term. He can't run again.

He might try for another office in the usual musical chairs they play in Sacramento.

As I read it, they’re only getting paid back to last Tuesday, the night they passed their budget. Malloy conveniently forgets to mention that little fact, but it’s in the Capital Alert story that he linked to.
