NORTH POINT, FL (WFLX) - Florida police are investigating a high school principal who hypnotized three students who later died.
Dr. George Kenney admitted to hypnotizing a 16-year-old boy who committed suicide one day after a private session.
Kenney hypnotized two other students who died tragically; one took her own life and another died in a car crash.
Kenney claims the students were happy to be hypnotized.
Many were taking part in competitive sports, and, he said, the hypnosis helped them focus.
>>Weirdest story Ive read in quite a while.<<
Indeed, a LONG time.
IMHO: I think hypnosis is one of those borderline science things that probably doesn’t provide a basis for a prosecution.
Please don't ask for details. I've already said more than I should.
Wonder what this guy’s credentials were..and if he was allowed to do this without parents’ knowledge and in aschool setting.
and, then the confused kid thinks he may be homosexual?
Sounds like one of Frank Peretti’s books.
I think it’s likely the suicides are unrelated to the hypnosis, almost certainly the car wreck. Maybe it was related in the sense that he was trying to help some troubled suicidal kids, when no one else would. Odd story.
It’s like the adult who is off spending time alone with some kid they’re supposed to be in charge of. Maybe they were reading bible verses and solving world hunger but it sure looks bad. Put another way - principal has a lot of ‘splaining to do.
Were they on anti-depressants? Did the hypnosis commands to "help them focus" create a "focus compulsion" that they couldn't control because of their meds? Did this hypnotic focus compulsion, driven by the meds, force them to focus on distracting or destructive thoughts, that they then couldn't pull out of? Did the principal suggest that, now that they had hynotic help, they could cut back on their meds (a known trigger of depression) and thus induce the very depression they then couldn't tear their minds away from?
Maybe the kids saw the fnords.
It would have been ethically and morally wrong for the hypnotist to encourage bizarre behavior even for “fun.” You never know who you’re dealing with. I think at most you’d want to help the person meditate upon things that are good and righteous.
It's not quite up there with the Swedish Flamingoes and Frenzied Anteater, but only on FR.
At least he’s not screwing them??
It would appear you're correct; I see references to Ed.D. on some CDs he has for sale on the Internet.
There's a lot of information missing from this particular article, compared to several related stories. Kenney had permission from the school board to demonstrate hypnosis in a group setting, but not one on one. At least one set of parents agreed to his hypnotizing their son. The time lines between sessions and suicide varied.
Pretty skimpy article. No offense intended to OP. ;-)
Look into my eyes ...
Oh, during questioning Kenney denied the individual sessions, but later recanted. His attorney apparently said Kenney misspoke because of stress. Puh-leeze.
maybe they should hypnotize Kenney and then interrogate...
There’s something satanic here we haven’t uncovered yet.
Some freak life coaches hypnotize people too
