Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) will enter the race for the presidency this weekend, according to published reports.

McCotter, a five-term congressman who said recently that he thought the presidential field had room for more conservative candidates, will file paperwork to enter the race on Fiday, according to reports.

After Sarah Palin, there's no one I'd like more to get the Republican nomination than Thaddeus McCotter. The field is starting to look pretty good right now, to me at least.

How will this affect his appearances on Red Eye?

McCotter isn’t going to get in it to win it. He’s raising his profile to take Debbie Stabenow’s seat.

Besides, he’s great but the public has little tolerance for a pro union republican right now. (His pro union stance is a result of his constituency)

I guess someone needs to run in the primary and win 0.1% of the vote.

I was hoping that McCotter would run against Debbie Stabenow. His chances would be much better and he would give Republicans a better chance at winning control of the Senate.

Here’s a couple more reports of McCotter entering the race; I can’t post because these media entities jealously guard their intellectual property:

I suspect that's his true goal.

I like this guy a lot. But he doesn't have a chance. He needs a full head of hair. America is that superficial nowadays. I'd vote for him in a millisecond but enough Americans today simply wouldn't vote for him. It's pathetic but that's where we are at.

Personally I like McCotter. I've met him on several occasions. He's about as straight shooter as it gets in Congress.

However, he's got little chance to win the primary. He's a populist. He's a social conservative, but has a big of a labor streak that's going to come out. I understand it, since he's from Livonia which has a large Irish Catholic and auto industry workforce.

Would I vote for him in the primary? Maybe. I haven't decided yet.

I think McCotter can give Stabenow a good race if he went for it.

Walberg is too soft spoken for even a senate race. You can win a house race by absorbing attacks with a smile, senate not so much.

McCotter IS probably running against Stabenow...sometimes people running for President do so to raise funds and their profile for national offices

He has said no as have many others to running against Debbie Stabenow. I don't see why they are so fearful, IMHO she is infinitely beat-able, unless the DNC does like they did @ the Michigan state level and through insane amounts of cash at certain seats to keep them. Given the Senate will be their "last stand" if you will, I can see them throwing all their resources at Senators they think can win or hold on.

I am waiting to here if Doc' Steele who ran against Dingell is going to go head to head with "Debbie"...

hmm, so McCotter is probably a stalking horse for Bachmann to help take away votes from Rick Perry, while Bachmann is a stalking horse for Romney to take away votes from Sarah Palin, and Rick Perry is a stalking horse for Palin to take away votes from Romney.

My head hurts thinking about that.

Just kidding. I actually saw McCotter speak at an event a few years ago. Don’t know too much about him, but he seems like a pretty genuine guy. I’d suspect he’s trying to raise his stature for the Senate race like Tancredo did for the CO Governor race.

I’d love to see him beat Dumbass Debbie. And people think Palin is dumb. Wow. Debbie has the IQ of an ink pen.

McCotter kicks tail. Love the guy! No, he probably doesn't have a chance at winning the presidency, but this clever and well-spoken patriot's presence on the stage should be welcomed nonetheless. I wish him the very best.
