After a statewide measure that would allow law-abiding Illinois citizens to carry a concealed firearm stalled in the House of Representative, a new version of the bill, the Family and Personal Protection Act, was filed last week that would let the issue of concealed carry be decided on a county-by-county basis.

There are areas of liberal domination other than Chicago; Rockford, down by St Louis, some of it in the Quad Cities. It’s rural Illinois that’s conservative. But we don’t have the clout to overcome this urban infestation.
What's wrong with every American having their God given rights?
Much of downstate Illinois is indeed conservative. Unfortunately, Chicago and its white collar/soccer mommy suburbs - along with Peoria, Decatur and Bloomington-Normal - keep the state in a socialist headlock.
Of course there is no concealed carry in Illinois. Self defense is only necessary in DANGEROUS places!
They could pass CCW that would be “Shall Issue” outside of Chicago, and where the license would not be good for CCW in Chicago.
Unfortunately, that’s because most rural areas in Illinois have smaller populations than counties like Cook (or should that be Crook?). As a Chicago supporter of concealed-carry, I was really hoping it would pass statewide.
--might be a way to get a "foot in the door" , so to speak--but I bet the Chicago machine in control quashes it---
Basil Duke noted a few more areas that are liberal; Bloomington-Normal for one, which is where the UofI is located. Peoria is the home of Ray LaHood...
But when you get outside these urban centers (and keep in mind, Chicago doesn’t begin to encompass the greater Chicago “area” as far as burbs and socialist strongholds. But the balance of Illinois is pretty conservative. My area 80 miles west of Chicago is a conservative stronghold. Our rep is Don Manzullo (R). And both state reps are (R).
I agree with you that the cities mentioned - Rockford, East St. Louis, etc. are Democrats, but not all the Chicago suburbs are liberal. DuPage County has always been conservative, and they have a million people there. The second largest city in the state, Naperville, is there, and Rockford has less than l50,000. I still think there’s hope for a Republican victory in Illinois.
No, you’re correct. I was simply trying to get the whole Champaign-Urbana-Bloomington area in. As to Peoria, I have a funny factoid (hopefully not hijacking the thread) about that lovely city. Back in 1871-72 Wyatt Earp and his bros. Virgil were pimping in that town. Yep, it’s a fact. I just dropped off an article about it to a buddy of mine who likes to read Illinois history. In Illinois, some things never change...
An easy out for polititions playing both sides would be to simply honor out of state permits. I’m in Il. and am getting a Fl permit. It will allow me to carry inalmost any state but my own.
Here’s another interesting fact about Peoria. I was at the
Cathedral for church once, and there is a plaque there that says something like this: “On this spot in 1698 a Church was established by Pere Marquette. It’s really an old city, isn’t it?
It’s one of the oldest settled areas in Illinois going back to 1680 or so. IIRC, Peoria was first established as a fort. Can’t recall the name. But it’s on the Illinois River, a natural waterway between the Mississippi and Lake Michigan. So it’s understandable that area would be settled early.
Quite interesting nugget about Wyatt Earp and his bro.
The ‘guns save life’ org. (like Burma shave signs) is very active in central IL.
They put out an informative monthly newsletter too.
Interesting. Thanks for the link.
I hope to heck something happens soon to snap the electorate out of its semi-coma. The reds in Chicago are doing their best to turn my homestate into a banana republic - a macro version of East St. Louis, wherein everyone except the tribal leaders is broke and no one but the most vicious of the population can own a firearm.
