FALL RIVER (CBS) Several investigations are underway following a number of strange twists in the drowning death of a Fall River woman. The womans body was believed to be in the public pool in Fall River for days before it was noticed.
On Thursday, Fall Rivers mayor revealed that health inspectors from the City visited the pool on Monday and on Tuesday and inspected the facilities, which was during the time that body of Marie Joseph was believed to be in the water.
According to officials, the inspectors tested the pool Tuesday, and noted in a report that the water was cloudy.
Joseph was at the pool on Sunday and hadnt been seen since. The pool was open to the public Monday and Tuesday with lifeguards, none of whom noticed the body under 12 feet of water.
It wasnt until Tuesday night, when some kids broke into the Veterans Memorial swimming pool and found Josephs body floating in the pool.
The mayor said Thursday that those city inspectors who visited the pool have been placed on administrative leave. The entire pool staff has also been placed on leave by the state.
Investigators have said that, on Sunday, 36-year-old Joseph went down a slide with a 9-year-old boy and vanished.
Were not certain about anything other than the fact that we have a death and that this person was at the pool, and what took place with respect to the slide. Everything beyond that is absolutely under investigation, said Samuel Sutter, the Bristol District Attorney.

I wonder why...
I see the meatheads are on the job in Fall River.
What a misbegotten hell hole.
I’m from the government, and I’m here to help....
Is it possible that she came grief by means foul elswhere and dumped in the pool after hours?
Got to be able to see the main bottom drains or the pool should be closed.

um... if the water was too cloudy to see a body on the bottom ... how exactly are the inspectors at fault? are they suppose to use their exray vision to see through cloudy water? are they suppose to jump into every cloudy pool and search the bottom just in case a corpse might be there? I am totally confused as to why anyone is at fault, especially the inspectors.
This is Fall River we're talking about here. Quite literally the armpit of Massachusetts.
since no one seen the body we will have to put a $2000 device on all pools throughout the country to make sure there is no body in the water.
This is for your children's health and safety.
If the water is that cloudy the pool is required to be closed in all states that I am aware of if it is a public pool.
In other words the government needs a new device to test for a body in suspended in the water.
BTW - this supposed to be a joke but knowing government they will do it
Public Employee: < crickets >
Sounds like the “Inspection” was “Pencil Whipped” at the local watering hole
I find it odd that no one who was swimming in that cesspool noticed, either..........
“This is Fall River we’re talking about here. Quite literally the armpit of Massachusetts.”
Geographically speaking.
Metaphorically the exit orifice of the digestive tract is more appropriate.
I'm no fan of public pools--I prefer fresh water swimming--but my kids have all taken lessons at area public pools. I have a pretty good idea of how clear the water ought to be, and that's crystal. The inspectors noted that the water was "cloudy"--and it was apparently cloudy enough to camo a submerged body--but they failed to close the pool.
You really don't see a problem here?
What happened to the 9yr old boy? did he report that she did not come up? that doesn’t make any sense.
one part of the story says the body was 12ft under? then the next day it was floating? something does not make any sense here.
"...On the national level, the city is divided between Massachusetts Congressional Districts 3 and 4, which are represented by Jim McGovern and Barney Frank, respectively.
The state's senior (Class II) Senator is John Kerry, Scott Brown is the junior Senator from Massachusetts.
