'Senate Is Fiddling While America Is Going Bankrupt,' Republican Says

(CNSNews.com) - Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) has been in the U.S. Senate for six months, and he says nothing is getting done. Therefore, he is leading a Republican call for the Senate to work through its scheduled Fourth of July recess.

“I’ve been here six months and trust me, the Senate is fiddling while America is going bankrupt," Johnson said. "The fact that anyone would even consider recessing at this point in time is absurd. If we let that happen, we’d be guilty of willful neglect. It’s time to get serious about the most urgent problem facing our nation today. It’s time to start working on the problem.”

Johnson told a news conference on Wednesday that he ran for the Senate because he's worried the nation will go bankrupt: "We need to start addressing this urgent problem. We need to start talking about what the solutions are. We need a budget. We need the United States Senate to propose one, and pass a budget. And of course that means leadership from the Democrats," Johnson said.

So stop spending on the rest of the world, already. Pull out troops, end nation building, foreign aid, disaster relief, whatever. Americans shouldn’t be the only ones to sacrifice.

take every federal project and make it’s current budget 90% of last years. every one. every place federal money is spent - make it 90% of last years. no exceptions.

repeat for five years.

no changes in taxes. when expenses dip below revenues (hopefully in year 5)apply surplus to debt buydown.

maintain until debt is 5% GDP.

require supertmajority to raise spending/taxes

Speaking of federal projects, at least those involving construction, about a 1/3 of the budget on those is for environmental impact studies, mitigation etc. Just removing that would reduce those projects by a 1/3!!

While I do very much agree with ...it would be fascinating to watch the world ...when we stopped trying to be the world.

suggestions being rewarded would include streamlining and simplifying all processes/procedures and regulations.
and aside from highways adn a few limited projects, teh federal government should not be in the construction business.

We also need to fire some bureaucrats. I personally am witnessing the government preparing to piss away hundreds of millions of dollars in the next 6 years on a crappy, redundant system that won’t be as good as the one it replaces because of the egos of two career executives.

Do like the state of CA... they don’t meet the deadline?... NO PAY. (At least they got that one right.) Then take away all the perks and benefits.

A guy in Washington less than 6 months makes more sense than the whole lot of them there for decades.

Its about time someone held the Democrats to account for their miserable budget failures.

Another good example of why we need to fire more incumbents.

Admin, can we get rid of this robo-spammer? He has no connection with the real CNS News (or so they tell me).
