Texas governor addresses Boy Scouts in California

SAN DIEGO, CA -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry told a Boy Scouts ceremony on Wednesday that the federal government is rudderless, kicking off a trip to California that has stoked speculation that he will enter the Republican contest for president.

Perry fondly recalled his boyhood as a Scout in Texas, including his first visit to Washington, and applauded the group for promoting values such as fellowship, self-reliance, dedication and perseverance.

"I really wish we saw more of that sort of courage throughout our society, yep, including in Washington, D.C.," he said.

Perry didn't mention President Barack Obama or any politician or by name during a 15-minute speech aboard the USS Midway and he avoided any policy statements, but he drew applause when he took a broad swipe at the nation's political leaders.

"Just because the federal government happens to be rudderless at the moment, it doesn't mean the American people have lost their way," he said.

"I believe in this country because I believe in our people, and even in our darkest hours, the west Texas optimism that I have in my soul tells me that our brightest hour is just around the corner," he continued.

C-130 Rick Perry: He flew the world before politics "........"It was one of the great adventures of my life," Perry said. "I had a fairly pedestrian life until I was 23 years old."

Perry could count on one hand the number of trips he had taken out of his home state by the time he graduated from Texas A&M University, but everything changed when he joined the Air Force.

Flying C-130s, Perry lived in Germany and Saudi Arabia. He flew in Central and South America, North Africa and all over Europe.

"I saw all of these different types of governments and I made the connections to how the people acted and looked, and it became abundantly clear to me that, at that particular point in time, that America was this very unique place and that our form of democracy was very rare," Perry said. " ... That was the greatest gift I received from my years of being in the military, and they really shaped my outlook on the rest of my life."

Perry retired from the Air Force in 1977 — but not without one last adventure..... "

Obama and all his socialist cheerleaders in the main stream media (NBC, CMS, ABC, CNN, NY Times, Washington Post, etc) begin all discussions about the economy with one premise in mind:

THAT THE MONEY YOU EARN FROM YOUR HARD WORK BELONGS, NOT TO YOU, BUT TO THE GOVERNMENT!

They believe that the government is being very generous in allowing you to keep some of your hard earn money.

IS THIS WHAT YOU BELIEVE ABOUT HOW THE FREE MARKET SYSTEM IS SUPPOSED TO WORK?

No more taxes…Not one single penny more to the government which is sucking money that you earn out of the economy where it could be used to create jobs.

Let’s add one more name to the unemployment rolls – OBAMA’s

Reagan famously said, “A recession is when your neighbor loses his job. A depression is when you lose yours. And recovery is when Jimmy Carter loses his.

Texas has led but it’s been a hell of a struggle against Washington D.C......government must trust the people this administration doesn't trust the people. --Rick Perry. (paraphrased from speech below)

Governor Rick Perry's Speech at Red State Conference in 2010 (Video and Notes) In Speech Perry:

Reads the 10th Amendment – What a beautiful succinct, simple statement – words penned for a time such as this…… (nice list of rights being taken away and by whom).

Perry notes: Republicans lost because you couldn’t tell the difference between a Republican and a Democrat… (expands)

Growing mood in the country – passion across the state and when I look at Glenn Beck’s event in Washington D.C. and other events, it warms the cockles of my heart……”

Texas has led but it’s been a hell of a struggle against Washington D.C. – they must trust the people, they don’t trust the people.

Governing isn’t that hard…

First – Don’t spend all the money!

TX legislature meets 140 days every OTHER year!

TARP – Stimulus – great concern in Texas, country, world --- small businesses don’t know what shoe will fall next – what regulations – costs – job loss. Health care bill – cost – loss of access to health care…..

Second: Fair and predictable tax and regulatory policy…..

Third: Legal system that does not allow for over suing. Sweeping tort reform 2003 in TX has paid HUGE dividends. Went from Jack-pot Justice (legal hell hole) to 60% more doctors practicing in Texas from 7 years ago (expands more on this) – about access to health care.

Last step: Loser Pays tells them, you better have a case. If frivolous – fishing for settlement – they’ll foot the bill! (since this speech, Perry signed it into law)

Haley Barbour told him, If "Loser Pays" passes you can put turnstiles on the TX border and charge people to come into your state!”

THAT’S IT! Put those 4 principles into place and tell government to get the hell out of the way. – Rick Perry

It is no coincidence this thread is started by one of the prime advocates fo Rudy last cycle.

Some people won’t accept any social conservatives for any reason, and will spend all their time trying to convince a RINO with Perry or Giuliani’s record is what you really want. Kind of like convincing you that a snake in the grass with a bulging kitten still obviously kicking in its belly is in fact a nice garden hose.

Related to that event, Rick Perry was also interviewed by former San Diego Mayor Roger Hedgecock on his national radio show:

Perry is talks about competition among the states, economic ideas. Roger mentions critics and asks about border security, the Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC) and TSA groping bill failure.

Audio of the interview starts around 24:30 and lasts about 14 minutes:

Perry is not a "social conservative?" He's got a pro-life record in office and out, has had one wife and two kids, isn't supporting gay marriage, talks openly about God and faith... with what part of the "social conservative" agenda does he fail?

He did support Rudy in '08 down in FL but you can tar any candidates based on who they supported in the past. Off the cuff: Palin supported McCain. Twice. Cain supported Romney in '08. Santorum supported turncoat Arlen Spector. Thrice-married Gingrich supported Dede Scozzafava. Huntsman joined the Obama Regime... it goes on.

I heard Perry give a speech at a luncheon soon after he became Governor. At the time, I thought he was a really boring speaker. He seems to have improved greatly.

And with quotes like this...

"Just because the federal government happens to be rudderless at the moment, it doesn't mean the American people have lost their way,"

...his message is simple and profound. Well said, Guv.

Mr Edd!!

A horse is a horse of course of course — the amazing Mr Edd!

You are nothing if not predictable - go talk to Wilber. He cares.

When you have no argument you go on a search and destroy mission — sort of like Obama did in his press conference.

You two should team up and take it on the road.

Great points. Thanks!

And for the link. I wasn’t able to do much online after posting this thread yesterday. I’m going to listen to Hedgecock interview now.

Hopefully we all improve with age! Ha! Unlike Obama who just continues down the road to our destruction.

And GOOD point about the “simple and memorable” comment. Those are what people remember — they stick.

Great interview.

Hedgecock gives him the time to answer his questions.

A keeper.
