Man shot dead in surge of summer violence

A man was killed in Dorchester early this morning, police report, in a shooting that one neighbor said sent five gunshots out into the night.

The shooting occurred around 1:42 a.m. at 45 Olney Street. Police provided no further details. The victim, in his late 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Twenty-one people have been killed in Boston so far this year.

I live near Rochester NY and its average is 50-60 a year.
