While Rep. Michele Bachmann has forcefully denounced the Medicaid program for swelling the "welfare rolls," the mental health clinic run by her husband has been collecting annual Medicaid payments totaling over $137,000 for the treatment of patients since 2005, according to new figures obtained by NBC News.
The previously unreported payments are on top of the $24,000 in federal and state funds that Bachmann & Associates, the clinic founded by Marcus Bachmann, a clinical therapist, received in recent years under a state grant to train its employees, state records show. The figures were provided to NBC News in response to a Freedom of Information request.
The $161,000 in payments from the Minnesota Department of Human Services to her husband's clinic appear to contradict some of Michelle Bachmann's public accounts this week when she was first asked about the extent to which her family has benefited from government aid. Contacted this afternoon, Alice Stewart, a spokeswoman for Bachmann, said the congresswoman was doing campaign events and was not immediately available for comment.

When asked by anchor Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday" about the story's assertion that her husband's counseling clinic had also gotten federal and state funds, Bachmann replied that it was "one-time training money that came from the federal government. And it certainly didn't help our clinic."
At another point, she said, "My husband and I did not get the money," adding that it was "mental health training money that went to the employees."
But state records show that Bachmann & Associates has been collecting payments under the Minnesota's Medicaid program every year for the past six years. Karen Smigielski, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Human Services, said the state's Medicaid program is funded "about 50-50" with federal and state monies.

Do not be surprised folks...the left understands us as their enemy...they have known this for decades and treat us thusly. The problem isn’t that they think of us as the enemy, the problem is that we do not think of them as the enemy. Most of us think they are simply Americans with differing viewpoints. They are not...they hate America and Americans with a passion that will not stop at the voting booths.
One would have to see the entire interview to know if Bachmann is being misleadingly quoted here — if this is a Michael Moore style slime job complete with creative editing to make Bachmann look like she was lying when she was clearly talking about two different Federal deals. One was the training program, the other was the Medicaid payments that the clinic accepted (at a loss).

I am serious. I might have missed something. Did she say that her husband’s business never received Medicare funds for treating patients?
Or did she say that her husband’s business never received any Medicare grants?
They are two completely and totally different things. Which did she refer to in her lie, and do you have a link to that quote?

If you are going to run a clinic in modern day America, you have to take Medicaid money. The point of running a business like that is to make money. That doesn’t mean he or she agrees with the program.
"Hey Isikoff, how did Michelle lose her law license?"
"What real work did she do for University of Chicago Hospitals? (while getting suddenly being paid $300,000/yr while hubby delivered a million-dollar earmark?)

"Government Aid"? Since when is performing a professional service (PROBABLY AT A LOSS!) and getting Medicare payments referred to as "GOVERNMENT AID"?
There are several conclusions I reach here:
1.) NBC deliberately wrote this in the fashion they did to mislead people
2.) There are uneducated people (including some Freepers) who fall for it out of ignorance.
3.) There are some people who understand exactly what NBC did here (including some Freepers) and choose to propagate the theme.
She never once said that the government monies that the clinic they own and run was from Medicaid or Medicare, but that it was a ONE TIME thing, which didn't go to the clinic at all, but to some members of the staff for some sort of "training".
Her gaffes and historical inaccuracies are bad enough; however, the lies disturb me! There's nothing illegal nor hypocritical in getting those kinds of monies, so WHY lie about it? If they/anyone called her a hypocrite for taking the money, she could have easily come back and said that that's the way it is now, whether I believe in having it that way or not. The clinic isn't a charity, where we treat everyone for free. And that would be the end of it. Now, with all of the foolish lies, she looks ridiculous, untrustworthy, and has NO way to get out of it all.
