A new Hays Research poll shows Barrack Obama would beat Sarah Palin among Alaskans if the presidential election was today.
The poll found 42 percent of Alaskan voters would pick or are learning toward Obama in a head to head race against Palin for the presidency, while 36 percent of the voters would choose or are leaning toward Palin over him.
Conservative Anchorage radio host Mike Porcaro paid for Hays Research to ask the question.
Sarah Palin showcases her Alaska roots at every opportunity, but the surprising reality is she has become highly unpopular in her home state, Porcaro said in an emailed statement.
Whether it is the fact she left office after serving barely two years or that some Alaskans believe her tax policies have punished our vital oil and gas industry or the rock star nature of her media coverage, these results show Sarah Palin would lose to Obama in Alaska, where voters overwhelmingly support conservative candidates, Porcaro said.
Porcaro hosts an afternoon show on KENI AM and owns an Anchorage advertising agency.
Hays Research of Anchorage polled 500 Alaskans who voted in at least two of the four statewide elections. The poll was on June 21st and June 22nd.
It asked:
Although it is some time from now, thinking about the election for President of the United States next year, if the election were held today and the candidates were Democrat Barack Obama or Republican Sarah Palin, for whom would you vote or are you undecided?
Respondents who had strong views favored Obama 34 percent to Palins 25 percent.

GOOD FIND! And that is exactly the feeling in ‘08 when America met SARAH and after the election.
Now the commie rats and rino’s want to tell us differently!
This is not rocket surgery.
It's not a phony poll, just cold hard reality.
You have it wrong - it’s the anti Palin crowd who is doing the name calling and posting deception like the media pawns they are.
>>> Anchorage Daily News: Poll shows Alaskans would vote for Obama over Palin
A more accurate headline would read “Likely Alaskan Voters Don’t Want Either Obama or Palin”.
But what would be the fun of that. Think of the scores of wailing and “what’s wrong with Alaska!!!!” posts we’d miss.

LMAO!!
A polling org from Moscow would be more honest.
That'll endear anyone to a candidate! /s
“What happened between 2008 and now? Oh, right! She QUIT on Alaska’s voters.”
Nothing happened except that we are in between elections, Palin is still first in favorability with Republicans and their top choice for 2012.
Here are some recent polls, and they reflect more or less what we have seen for almost three years running, Palin either first or second.
Three days ago the AP-Gfk poll showed Palin as first in favorability among all GOP candidates with republicans
Twelve days ago The Economist/YouGov poll had her at first on the 2012 list as nominee choice.
Eighteen days ago the Reuters/IPSOS poll had Palin at first of the 2012 list as nominee choice.
It's consistent with prior polls. It's likely voters. Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it doesn't reflect real opinion of AK voters.
Romney will cause the base to sit out the election like he did in 2008 when he could not fire them up for him.
Palin caused a higher turn out because she was on the ticket.
Palin and a billion dollars will be a campaign for the history books.
Is this guy Mercowski’s nephew, son, brother, significant other? I noticed he offered up the three zingers himself as the possible reasons for his suspicious findings against Palin and for Obama.
(And as you know I’m not a Palin first and only type, but really this is the real bridge to nowhere, surely.)
LOL, she will win Alaska don’t worry about that, Obama will not.
Remember, the nutjobs who filed all those complaints against Palin had connections to the Anchorage Daily News.
I think it is just more BS!
Hays poll in 2008 grossly understated McCain/Palin strength in Alaska (said McCain/Palin ahead by 2.7% on November 4th, when actual margin of McCain/Palin victory in the state was 59.8% to 38%, a spread of 21.8%, MORE THAN 10X what Hays-Hole-in-the-Wall Polling called.

oh, yeah, ok, I fat fingered, sevenX, then.
Here is the question...
Although it is some time from now, thinking about the election for President of the United States next year, if the election were held today and the candidates were Democrat Barack Obama or Republican Sarah Palin, for whom would you vote or are you undecided?
