This is old news. Denninger has brought it up before. It seems that there is no “or else” in the law. So Obama can break it without penalty. Congress critters always forget the penalty part when government officials could be punished for breaking a law.

We’ve been operating without a budget for 2 years. If they can ignore the mandate to actually make a budget they can easily ignore the debt ceiling law. And given how little complaining the GOP has done about the lack of budget they really have no leverage to enforce the ceiling.

Could Obama Just Ignore the Debt Ceiling?

What debt ceiling?

What War Powers Act?

Want some whiskey in you water? Sugar in your tea? What's all these crazy questions you're asking me?

Why don't all American taxpayers just open up new accounts at banks, put $1 in the account and then write a check to the Federal Goverment for the $20,000 or so that we supposedly owe to pay our income taxes?

Hell if the government can create money out of thin air, then they can cover our bad checks.

Doesn't matter what the GOP does. It will be polled over the next week. If Obama is close to 50%, he's going to do it, and it won't be used against him in 2012.

He wants to destroy our way of life. I don't know how many times I can type this, but the answer never seems to get through to people.

Let them do it. Then the S&P can downgrade our credit rating and finally light the match and toss it onto this gas covered smoldering mass that used to be the United States of America. Countries are already looking to dump us as the worlds reserve currency. America is like the punch-drunk boxer out on his feet and has no sense to fall over. We can only blame ourselves for standing by and letting the govt do this to us. So feel free to hate on me for stating the truth that no one wants to talk about.

He could try and ignor it, but the House can defund it and order him held in contempt until impeachment. He wont be able to as much as fart without someone-the military, crawling up his ass.
If they fail to do it, then under the tenth amendment, the states can do it and if not the states, THEN THE PEOPLE can enforce their will.

And I am ready, Are you?

Same old stunt. Every time lefties run into opposition they start spreading runors that they’re just going to ignore what the people want. Clinton was just going to stay for another term, Democrats were just going to ignore the 2010 election, Gray Davis was just going to refuse to leave, Obama was just going to ignore Congress. And every time they cave.

It would be an impeachable offense, but is there any GOP rep. or Senator who would have the guts to vote to impeach?

Obama has never failed in audacity to break the constitution itself. why would he hesitate for this, when the Times gives him cover?

and the Republicans CAVED on the last budget, saving less than 1% of a budget that was DOUBLE that of Bush’s.

...they can’t even get us our 100 watt bulbs back after 4 years, even though the Obama administration itself, admits the USA is getter colder, not hotter.

our Gulf drilling industry is in shambles. GOP does nothing. EPA runs rampant. GOP does nothing.

...with a few valiant exceptions, like DeMint, the GOP is like Brave Sir Robin.

why should Obama worry about getting permission OR forgiveness from them ?

They won't work with Congress to get things in order, nor would they prioritize reasonably. Just look back, a couple months, at BO refusing to pay the military by threatening to veto a bill authorizing payment in event of a government shutdown. There is no extreme he won't go to. He is a lawless thug, disinterested in the good of the nation.

There's no point authorizing $2 trillion in extra borrowing now because it'll be used up by the end of 2012 and we'll still be no better off.

He doesn't want budget cuts and there's talk of an additional stimulus!

He harps on "millionaires and billionaires" all while paying far fewer in federal income taxes than his 35% bracket. Biden's even worse, paying just 23% while also in the 35% bracket.

I have heard the libs say the Senate will concoct a way to go around the House, declaring the debt ceiling unconstitutional.

Flashback(2010):

"White House officials even talk privately about the galvanizing political benefit of a bond market crisis, which would force panicked Members of Congress to accept a big new value-added tax. The President's two looming tax reports -- one from his deficit commission and the other from Paul Volcker's economic advisory group -- are intended to propose a VAT and other tax options. Whatever their initial reception, the proposals will be there to be pulled from the shelf when the political moment is right. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703426004575338991852947182.html?mod=WSJ_Opinion_AboveLEFTTop

Garrett Epps was in my law school graduating class. He was older than most of us & had come from a career as.... a Washington Post reporter.

This spending issue is the fight of our lives. Democrats (a/k/a, the media) don’t accept that the Reagan recovery from the Carter years was due to conservative fiscal policy.

I used to think that politicians of all stripes understood that permitting people and businesses to retain more of their own money - and lessening the regulatory burden - would stimulate growth.

Thus I viewed Dem spending & taxing as calculated - because it was
easier to buy votes from the ignorant + irresponsible by telling them that they didn’t need to take care of themselves, the gov’t would do it.

The current crisis has revealed to me that many of these Dems really
think that the New Deal spending pulled us out of the Great Depression. I’ve repeatedly heard Alan Colmes shrieking that the only problem with
Porkulus is that it wasn’t big enough.

Fight like hell to elect fiscal conservatives at every level of gov’t. Be a poll watcher. Call your Congressman and remind him or her that this is not business as usual. Wasteful spending needs to stop now or we will be Greece.
