Some may have seen Mr. Díaz, a Democrat and a Pentecostal minister, as the Latino representative on the issue, but several same-sex couples in Queens from Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico would debate that, if they were not so busy planning their weddings.
He pretends to speak for all of us, for Latinos, and I really do not think he does, said Ana Maria Archila, a Colombian who decided on Friday night to marry her longtime partner after the State Senate voted to make same-sex unions legal

This sentence Advocates for the two groups say that immigrants and gay people are among the last still fighting for basic civil rights. Progress for one, they say, will help the other. is utterly false -- fighting for basic civil rights? A legal immigrant has as much rights as anyone, leave alone basic. And what "basic rights" do gays not have? Marriage is not a right...
A legal immigrant has as much rights as anyone,
/// absolutely. so they must have been talking about illegals. who are hoping Obama will make them legal.
(at this point, i am too. they already get all the benefits, taxpayers pay for their food, housing, medical.
and, they are already voting (and rarely are caught).
at least if they are legal, they’ll stop stealing identities.)
How anyone can support this leftist drivel and call it liberty is beyond me. It is no such thing. If someone is here illegally then what in the hell they expect? As for homosexuals and marriage. The idea that they are being denied something because they choose a lifestyle that the government generally does not license is crazy. Since when is it discriminatory for the government not to regulate something or license something?
exactly. it’s just the gays trying to say they are “denied rights”....
How can someone be “denied rights” to something that has NEVER existed before? I’ve never heard a good explanation from gay activists.
True and Marriage is not a “right”. Will the gays next say they have the right to give birth?
What a bunch of self-absorbed whiners.
I’m sure this did resonate with our Muslim illegals; they’re probably re-directing their next suicide flights as we speak.
>> Marriage is not a right...
Correct, but it’s perceived as one giving the bureaucrats a device to control civil behavior.
Removing politics from the picture, does anyone care if two homosexuals have a ceremony celebrating their commitment to one another? I’m not interested.
The govt has no right to mandate civil compliance of homosexual behavior. The govt should not be in the business of governing traditional marriage. The govt should not be forcing citizens to comply with the marriage practices of any group.
A lot of these issues would go away if we weren’t so damn dependent on the govt.
What immigrants are still fighting for basic civil rights? What civil rights to legal immigrant lack?
The times had to slip in Mr. Díaz is a Pentecostal minister making this about his religious faith (Pentecostals are crazy, don't ya know, just look at that Sarah Palin) in opposition to civil rights. Sick!
I can't even dig into the body of the piece. This isn't news it's outrageous, divisive propaganda.
This seems a new version of the old being Gay is just like being black convenient but errant argument. Didn’t work 100% when the Queen Berets used that argument because some blacks like Dr.Alveda King (neice of Dr.Martin Luther King) and Gen Colin Powell both spoke reasonably well enough against that Crap.No doubt there are legal immigrants -Perhaps like the actor Omos? (but I don’t know his sentiments on homosexuals being compared to immigrants) who could speak against this silliness. Clearly the error is that sexual orientation compares to race/ethnicity when it does NOT!

Seems these days they make out like Christ is cool with whatever helps illegals to have a better life.
