This is Los Alamos County Fire and Police Departments. The Conchas Fire has made significant movement north and east and is threatening to top the ski hill and possibly run into Los Alamos Canyon. We urge ALL residents of the town site to evacuate NOW. This fire poses a serious threat to safety. Once again, this is Los Alamos County Fire and Police Departments. (The NM list is available on my FR homepage for anyone to use. Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list. For ABQ Journal articles requiring a subscription, scroll down to the bottom of the page to view the article for free after watching a short video commercial.)
Thanks Dave. Several folks on the thread live in that area of NM - I’m trying to let people know that may need a place to go or need a place for animals that they can visit the site:

Also, anyone in that area can check the NM FReeper board - if you can be okay in ABQ you’ve got a home waiting if you need it.
This is very ominous.
Actually, I caught an 8-incher (rainbow) out of that creek, back in the early-1970’s. I thought it was a monster! (Good eating, too!)
This is pretty serious. I pray for all of you in the area. The last fire at Los Alamos indirectly took the life of a good friend. He was already struggling with cancer and the stress of his house being the only one to survive on 45th Street was just too much for him. I have a lot of personal attachment to this town. God be with all of you out there.
Please add me to the NM ping list.
Cougar that is such a shame. Hopefully no one loses their life, directly or indirectly this time.
Done!
My daughter is in Taos for a summer dance intensive. How close are the fires to you? Is there any threat to Taos at this time? She says she is fine but mom is worried. This is her first time away.
Taos is about 80 miles away from Los Alamos and should be fine.
Thanks! I appreciate the info.
Landy and I have been praying for everyone involved...............we wish we could do more.
We honestly are grieving for all thats lost.
Is the US Forest Service guy that ordered the “controlled” burn on the day of the year with the highest recorded wind velocity back from prison? I thought the USFS promoted the guy for burning up 2/3 of New Mexico in 1997? Or, did he train a replacement arsonist?
I was just there for 4 days at the Water street inn in Santa Fe and drive down from Durango-Cortez earlier through Chama..
I the same fire you could see north of Santa Fe?
The Pacheco fire or yet another....another i think?
The Puyes cliff dwellings were closed due to fire threat...folks were nervous..especially Pueblo indian types at those to the north..north west
I drive down to Sandia and actually saw a mountain lion on the dirt road on the north slope where I should not have driven put in search of water
Still sounds like a load of fun. ;)
I understand your concern.shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiachThe smoke has cleared.
We no longer smell the fire.
Las Alamos is about 55 miles
south-west of Taos as the crow flies.
And OBTW across the Rio Grande valley.I think we are safe at this moment.
I don’t know what became of him. I hadn’t lived there since before the fire and hadn’t followed the news.
A couple of weeks ago we drove from Mesa Verde headed for Raton. The fire near Raton caused I-25 to be closed. So, instead of going to Raton we turned south through Chama and went through Taos down to Las Vegas. On the road south from Taos there were caution signs along the road about firefighters and their equipment being on the road ahead. A small section in the mountains on both sides of that road was burned, but the fire was not active when we were there.
Tks for the update. We are from Colorado and no stranger to fires, but it is a little disconcerting to not know the area in relation to where my daughter is. My baby has flown the nest and mama hen is not happy!
My prayers for all if you affected by the fires. They are truly a terrible thing
Taos county is planning to close all camp sites.Fear of man made fire and fireworks.
Public display of fireworks has been canceled as well.
