Tea Party Leaders Look to Bachmann, Paul and Perry (no support for Palin, boos for Romney)
The New York Times ^ | 2011-06-27 | Kate Zernike

Who is the Tea Party candidate for president?

If a gathering of about 100 Tea Party leaders in Washington on Monday gives any indication, it’s Representative Michele Bachmann (who just announced her candidacy), with Representative Ron Paul and Gov. Rick Perry vying for a close second (and probably edging her out on fervency of support).

Leaders from Tea Party groups in about 40 states gathered in the Washington offices of FreedomWorks, the libertarian advocacy group that cultivated the Tea Party movement.

(snip)

A (completely unscientific) voice-vote straw poll of the (possibly unrepresentative) group, conducted by reporters, found almost no support and even a few groans for Sarah Palin; loud boos drowning out a handful of cheers for Mitt Romney; nays for Jon M. Huntsman Jr.; and support but dismissals that “he can’t win” for Herman Cain.

(snip)

On a voice-vote run-off (equally unscientific) among the apparent top three contenders, Mrs. Bachmann, a Minnesota Republican, seemed to do best among women in the room, while Mr. Perry did best among men, and Mr. Paul, also of Texas, did best among younger people in the room.

(snip)

Loretta Malander, a Tea Party activist from Oak Hill, Va., praised Mrs. Bachmann much the way supporters of Ms. Palin described her in 2008: “She’s one of us,” she said.”We can connect and relate with her in the way we were raised, our values. We feel like she understands Middle America. She’s not one of those elites who look down on us.”

Well. It is interesting to me to hear that Tea Party Leaders control ANYTHING. To me, the Tea Party is not a leader, nor a group or gaggle or passel or any collection of "leaders" or influence.

It is a collective sentiment, and I DO NOT TAKE my marching orders from ANY so-called leader. I will vote my convictions, my ethics, my morals, and my immutable ANGER at what has become of this country. THEY, whoever they are, do not - cannot control that.

The republican establishment and the democrats and LSM has one objective to destroy the The Tea Party. Without Palin they will suck the spirit out of the movement. With Palin running for President the Tea Party moves forward. Palin 2012

I thought she said her favorite was “The Searchers”, which the MSM view as her Macaca moment.

Did anyone hear Hardball this afternoon. First off, Chrissy is taking credit for putting her on the map. Second, he LOVES her. That is all I have to say about that.

I don’t know about you, but these people don’t speak for me and I AM THE TEA PARTY. There are no “leaders” in the Tea Party Movement ... if they are, they should be called usurpers, not leaders.

LOL She was the Ron Bot candidate; not the tea party candidate which, of course and usual the Ron Bots were hiding. I wrote to her asking her about her qualifications; family; etc. The only answer I got was see my website.

There are three so-called “conservative” leaders that should NEVER be trusted:
1. David Keene
2. Grover Norquist
3. Dick Armey

What you got against Ron Paul and his delightful supporters?

Hey, stop over at www.ronpaulforums.com if you really want a laugh. Those people are a laugh riot. I snoop over there once in a while.

When I read their posts, I swear I can hear what they sound like. Kind of like the guys on "Big Bang Theory" only much nerdier.

His supporters are great...with all the weed they smoke, they’re really mellow.

Until you dare criticize their precious cult leader.

Then, they start yapping like a pack of chihuahuas.

I quit reading after reading “Teaparty Leaders in Washington”

'Zactly.

This is just the NYT and the Libertoonians trying to slip a couple of the more liberal candidates at us in hopes that we aren't paying attention.

Of the three highlighted in this article, only Bachmann has Tea Party potential.

Paul’s disaffection started early in Reagan’s presidency. “Ronald Reagan has given us a deficit 10 times greater than what we had with the Democrats,” Paul told the Christian Science Monitor in 1987.

“It didn’t take more than a month after 1981, to realize there would be no changes.”

I'm going to give my 110% all to the “Anybody But Obama” party for the future of America.

Anybody except cut and run Paul. He would be worse than the king. At least obama would pretend he wants to keep America safe, the surrender monkey would tell our enemies that if they attack us we will take the blame, after all America is to blame for every problem in the world. (In cut and run's world).

Is that what you call people you disagree with on some issues?

Well, if they talk like one & act like one they probably are.

The New York Times. Now there’s a news source we conservatives should listen to. Nice try, but FAIL.

This is # what 5 or 6 he has thrown his hat into the ring. The guy just doesn't get it.

Sure he does, all he wants is attention. He does not care how he gets it, just like a little kid will do all sorts of things just to get attention. Nobody could be so stupid to say the things he says and not want attention. He does not care if it is positive or negative, as long as it gets him attention.

I don't understand his voters who keep sending him back to DC. I guess everyone must be satisfied with his politics.
