The wrong John Wayne (Rollins appears to be Bachman's Idiot)
washington times ^ | 6/27 | Dinan

Posted on 06/27/2011 11:54:18 AM PDT by RummyChick

Rep. Michele Bachmann kicked off her presidential campaign on Monday in Waterloo, Iowa, and in one interview surrounding the official event she promised to mimic the spirit of Waterloo's own John Wayne.

The only problem, as one eagle-eyed reader notes: Waterloo's John Wayne was not the beloved movie star, but rather John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer.

Mrs. Bachmann grew up in Waterloo, and used the town as the backdrop for her campaign announcement, where she told Fox News: "Well what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit that I have, too."

(Someone has already posted the clip to YouTube under the name BachmannLovesGacy) John Wayne, the movie legend, is in fact from Iowa and the John Wayne birthplace is a celebrated landmark — only it's in Winterset, which is a nearly three hour drive away from Waterloo. Gacy, though, had his first taste of the criminal life in Waterloo, where he lived for a short time, and where he had his first criminal conviction for an attempted homosexual assault, which landed him in prison for 18 months. He would move back to Illinois, where his killing spree started, and lasted about six years. In 1980 he was convicted on 33 counts of murder, and was executed in 1994.

Now, how does one recover from such a disaster?

It requires true grit...

This is the most important presidential election in the history of our country. If we lose it the country will be lost, plain and simple. We can’t tolerate mistakes or carelessness.

“Michele “Wayne” Bachman”

Turn out the lights. Wonder who else’s campaign Rollins will go help destroy.

This from someone who’s ‘oracle’ was Trump. But way to go for a true conservative!

She could always claim she was brainwashed.

Why with one person we are supposed to look the other way and with another, well, that person never gets a break.

Nice to see you defend Palin! :-P

John Wayne was from Winterset, Iowa. It was a stupid mistake, but not the biggest mistake ever made.

That said, she REALLY needs to watch her step from here on out and stop with the stupid mistakes if she expects to be taken seriously.

Dear Lord in Heaven, I'm marking this on my calendar!

And if you've noticed, I'm laughing with Bachmann. Ok, I'm am laughing at her, but in the same way I laughed at every one else's gaffe. Timing is everything, though, and to have it during your official announcement will be rough.

If Michele were smart, she's come back with an apology, filled with all the other notable gaffes from prominent politicians, something like:

I deeply apologize for the confusion over the two John Wayne's, though I did like Gacy in True Grit. It was a highly charged day, and with studying economic trends in our 57 states, as well as brushing up on foreign policy with our allies in North Korea, my mind was clearly a bit on overdrive. But I hope that you can see I'm a clean, articulate person (yes, sometimes a bit flakey) who gets a bit travel logged, going to places like Hymeytown and the like. Let me be clear, there will be more attention given to the details in the future. Now, I'm off to have dinner with the hub. Might have a potatoe or two. ~My best, Michele

Well, wherever it was, we were darned lucky to have had the Duke of Ellington on our side...

Not to mention the Duke of Earl .;-)

LOOK, I would not believe for one minute that Sarah Palin is the go to girl for Chicago thugs.

What I can guarantee that if we switch the name in the article to Michele Bachmann, there isn’t a one of you that would not have totally agreed with the Chi-town cops.

There would have been endless posts about how bad Michele Bachmann is.

Nah, you are going to get suckered into open borders boy ‘cause she told you so. ugh

I did kind of get a kick out of your post, though. Very funny.

If you can’t get what you want, you will burn the whole place down. I have already said I would vote for Palin if she is nominee, will you make such a pledge? I doubt it.

And the Count of Basie, don't forget him... /g

P.S. - Has it occurred to you that our little conversation here makes more sense than the current crop of GOP contenders? Hillary Clinton once tried to float a theme called "the Politics of Meaning". Bachmann has now tried what appears to be "the Politics of Memeing". What's next? Things are getting downright surreal... /g

I didn’t say it was important.

I said that your comment that she was right was stupid. Covering for stupid with more stupid is well, stupid.

Clearly two different things.

As I recall, she blamed the Lexington/Concord mistake on a telepropter.

This is not good.
