Bachmann Launches Presidential Campaign
Fox News ^ | 27 June 2011 | Staff

Rep. Michele Bachmann, stressing her Iowa roots and appealing directly to Tea Party voters, came out swinging Monday as she formally launched her campaign for president.

Buoyed by a strong showing in several recent polls, the Minnesota congresswoman cast her campaign as the voice for "constitutional conservatives" looking for a government that lives within its means while giving the private sector the room to grow. She launched a broadside against President Obama for racking up too much debt while stimulating too little job growth and vowed to make him a "one-term president."

"We cannot afford four more years of Barack Obama," she declared, later adding: "We can win in 2012 and we will win."

In her announcement, Bachmann described a special bond with Iowa, the nation's leadoff caucus state. She held the kickoff in her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa, and called herself a "descendent of generations of Iowans," saying the state is where she learned "everything I needed to know." She also appealed to another vital primary constituency, calling herself part of the Tea Party movement and defending it as a cross-section of Republicans, independents and disaffected Democrats.

Not sure who I'll be voting for in the primary yet, but I'm glad to see some good prospects getting in the ring.

It’s rather evident to me, and I’m sure you folks will agree, that we need to stop talking about amnesty. They’ve already bastardized that meaning so badly that the word is worthless to use in the context of illegal immigration.

I say we cut them off at the knees, and demand to know if they support permits to work, freebies, and a pathway to citizenship or not.

No right to work, no freebies, no pathway... Welcome to the land of self-deportation.

Most people I know like to drink, eat, have a roof over their heads.

Adios Amigos...

I was told she is for getting them to voluntarily register for deportation, under the threat that they be deported if they dont register for..., Oh wait I see a problem with this reasoning... :)

They may think that, but I think you know that her statements in the interview contradict that. She did repeat the word "deport" many times in that interview, but I don't think when she said that they would register "to somehow allow you to work," she meant they would be allowed to work in Chihuahua (that's in Mexico).

And let's say no, if you are here illegally, and if you don't follow the steps that at some point through immigration reform we're going to be able to provide, and that is to somehow allow to you work. If you're not going to do that, then you will be deported. You will be gone.

Oops, I meant to post this as a link:

“I fear this scenario. BAchman is beating Romney, then Palin or Perry step in splitting the conservative vote and Romney gets the nod.”
Yeah me too. I fear more Perry stepping in. Perry is no conservative. Would a conservative support Al Gore in 99? No.
So Perry is Rino and Palin is not doing much to run. So that is the present situation.

Yeah I love candid photos like that. In this instance, there was a lot behind the implication of that photo, as in McCain/Kennedy.

Do you want the best candidate for POTUS, or are you willing to compromise?

Unlike Palin, I don't "compromise" with Obama or his Republicrat enablers, especially against real conservatives like J.D. Hayworth and Michele Bachmann.

FUJM!!!

When this first came out we had some fun with it and a defender actually made that argument. The argument specifically made is that (Palin was really saying that) illegals would sign up for a guest worker program or be deported, and the guest worker program would eventually send them back home. But it is obvious you could only get them to register if it meant they could stay, or get something else they want. It would be meaningless to those that plan on staying here.

I’m certain that in one interview she stated they were to register so they could stay here and work.

That pretty much tells ya what’s up.

RE :”BTW ilovesarah2012. SJB means our friend stephenjohnbanker.

Yes, and he is normally a nice guy but can get very angry when he hears talk about ‘immigration reform’ and ‘path to citizenship’ . I believe he understands the problem first hand as illegals are probably crossing his property right now leaving garbage behind for him to pick up, while giving him the finger. He has heard them chant Viva McCain many times as they enter Arizona from Mexico, to them Arizona is the land of milk and honey, err burrito and Tacos.

viva McCain, viva Taco Bell, viva food stamps, via Obama.

In the interview you linked me to, she states the down side of not registering is they get booted out. The obvious being that if you do register you can stay.

In another interview she actually linked registering with being able to stay here and work.

I’ll see if I can find that.

Transcripts suck. Start checking this out at 02:15 in. As it progresses through 02:28, you’ll hear what the ultimate plan is. She does say this makes her uncomfortable.

I may be a little too hard on her here, but IMO it’s hit the road Jack. If they’re here illegally, they go. She seems to harbor that view too in some statements, but there’s still that 02:28 part that seems to indicate the waffle alert should be pegged.

RE : “Indeed. And I don't want to pick on Palin and leave everyone else alone. Pawlenty (who may become stronger later) needs to answer tough questions about immigration. As for Romney, he has flipped on this issue more times than Cirque du Soleil

As I posted earlier, SJB posted last year that every Republicans president needs to be asked the BoR question about ‘12 million illegals already in this country’.

I bet every Republican presidential candidate dreads that question and prays they wont get it. They dont want to get caught between us and voting Hispanics many who relate to illegals (they may be their relatives.) But after Bush sprung amnesty on us, especially after losing the congress and then saying it was a good opportunity to pass it with the new Dem majority and Pelosi, we gotta ask,.

With Obama, it’s very difficult to say that illegal immigration is my first concern. There are a number of dire problems right now.

Conventionally, it is my first concern.

Accepting that illegals can stay here, is accepting all the folks they want to bring in under chain migration too.

HELL NO, to that.

Yes, every candidate needs to be vetted on illegal immigration. If they don’t get that, they don’t get a lot of things. That’s what I learned from past Candidates.

Sorry :”..every Republican presidential candidate needs to be asked the BoR question ...”

And no doubt you noticed BOR did that part of the interview skillfully, avoiding the following:

Interviewer: What will you do about the millions of illegal aliens in the USA?

Candidate (thinking "Yikes!"): I will "Secure the Border" (patent pending)!"

Interviewer: Well, uh, OK.

Palin tried that, but BOR didn't let her get away. Other candidates who don't want to be probed on this might want to get Hannity to interview them :)

Yes, and BoR was the first on FNC to be accused of 'disrespecting Palin' here, as early as last Fall I remember. A number of freepers hated him for it. They loved Hannity and Greta's softballs as they are part of the TEAM. BoR was the only one to do it.
