FedGov Says: Less Need For A/C This Summer
US Energy Information Administration Short-Term Energy Outlook ^ | 7 June 2011 | US Energy Information Administration

Posted on 06/26/2011 8:19:45 PM PDT by Steely Tom

Look what you find way down in paragraph 30 of this U.S. Government web page:

U.S. Electricity Consumption. EIA expects little change in total U.S. electricity consumption between 2010 and 2011 (U.S. Total Electricity Consumption Chart). Cooling degree-days during 2011 are assumed to be 14 percent lower than last year, which drives the projected 2.5-percent decline in retail electricity sales to the residential sector. Improved economic conditions should lead to a 3.6-percent increase in sales to the industrial sector, while commercial-sector electricity sales show little change in 2011. During 2012, total U.S. electricity consumption grows by 2.0 percent.

What is a "degree-day?" It's an arcane but useful way of estimating energy useage for heating or cooling based on weather conditions.

What they are saying here is that they expect temperatures this summer to average 14% lower than last summer's average, and that this will lead to an overall decline in electricity usage by homeowners.

Now, here's the thing: 14% is a lot. It's almost one-seventh.

This is a very hard number to swallow, in light of the man-made global warming alarmism that we're all so well aware of.

And this data is coming from the Executive Branch!

The Utilities company has to be panicking. That has to translate into lost revenues. Time for a rate hike?

Temperatures WON’T be 14% lower, which, going from absolute zero, would be 76 degrees colder or so! A LOT!!! However cooling degree days, COULD be. Read their definition.

They have to choose between the “reality” of Global Warming and the actual reality of declining budgets. Looks like they believe in declining budgets more.

I wouldn’t believe any data coming from Obama and his minions. It also said the price of electric would raise. Surprise Surprise. Trying to exert more control over the lives of US citizens.

I know what a cooking degree day is.

I wrote a paragraph trying to explain it, thought it was too mathematical, and deleted it.

I didn’t see a link to a definition on their page. If you have one, please post it.

I should have made it clear, that the 14% drop is not against the temperature measured in degrees Kelvin (or Rankine). Thank you for emphasizing that point.

I don’t really think that diminishes the significance of this Government-supplied information.

Improved economic conditions? Perhaps they took a time machine back when Bush was president and the Democrats hadn't taken control of the House and Senate yet.

Yeah, I noticed that. Seems like wishful thinking, but what do I know?

Here in AL, it has been like August all during June--high nineties and low 100s.

Thanks Steely Tom. The whole ‘put the nation on a diet’ / $5 a gallon gasoline / let’s kill the coal industry is all part of turning the US into North Korea.

It would sure help the country if A/C were banned in the DC limits.

My June electricity bill was $97.19 no AC run just my wife and I in Wisconsin. How does that compare to you other freepers around the country?
