Michele Bachmann denies benefiting from government aid

...Bachmann and her staff declined to talk to about the government assistance for the L.A. Times article. But asked about the issue on "Fox News Sunday," she insisted that she and her husband had not benefited at the expense of federal and state taxpayers.

"First of all," she said, "the money that went to the clinic was actually training money for employees. The clinic did not get the money. And my husband and I did not get the money either. That's mental health training money that went to employees."

As for the farm, she said it belonged to her father-in-law. "It's not my husband and my farm," Bachmann said. "And my husband and I have never gotten a penny of money from the farm."

As the Los Angeles Times reported on Sunday, however, in financial disclosure forms, Bachmann reported receiving between $32,503 and $105,000 in income from the farm, at minimum, between 2006 and 2009.

I take the woman's legislative history, resume, public statements and see if the narrative makes sense. See if her rhetoric matches her reality. Then I look for the parts I think are missing, both experience wise as well as the personal story.

I have already seen obfuscation regarding the foster children. When asked how long the children stayed with her she said "It varied". Then said they haven't discussed it so the children can maintain their privacy. I call BS. There is nothing that keeps Mrs. Bachmann from saying child A spent x to xx, etc, etc. If her supporters on this thread believe the MSM is going to settle for this as an answer, they are crazy.

I ask the questions we should all be asking of all our candidates. We better vet them, because we know damned sure the MSM/Dems will. This election is too important to just select a candidate, then have "Surprise".

I make no apologies for asking the hard questions the Bachmann/Palin sycophants/haters refuse to ask. Believe me, they will be asked at some point.

Or how Michelle made a 6 figure salary and yet didn’t work. And when she left her non-6 figure job, the position was ended.

Wonderful post. I’m glad to see people checking things out, and asking the hard questions.

I despise sycophancy. All too often, I read posts with blind alleigiance to A, B, C, etc. As you said, the last thing needed is a “SURPRISE !” with two weeks left until election day. I doubt anyone here want to see this headline; “President Obama re-elected in stunning landslide - mandate for four more years of hope and change.

Also, I agree that the MSM won’t vet the GOP candidate. But if they come up with something damaging, or otherwise salacious or negative....can you say October Surprise?

Honesty is the best policy, Michele.

Im going to have to see if this report is accurate.

Just words. Representative Bachmann is great with words.

I get a laugh out of those thinking she’s in a better position than Palin. No, she’s not. And things will just be starting as she’s getting known to the public. Palin has been put through everything and they have nothing. It has gotten to the point it’s backfired with their desperation and Palin has taken on the press. Bachmann is no Palin.

She is much harder to marginalize than Palin, but has there been polling of the electorate that would never vote for Michele Bachmann ? It is probably over 50%.

So is Palin because that is all she has really done since her resignation is talk. Lets check out her words while she agreed to be McCain’s running mate and while she was campaigning for Juan. Want to? LOL

Interesting to see Bachmann be put through just a little of what Palin has been through. She’s in for more, a lot more. This is not a good way to start off when she said otherwise. The public does not know her and Rollins strategy to tell us Bachmann was smarter and more deserving than Palin is not going to cut it.

Give me a break.

The point is that the federal government is so unflippinbelievable large and powerful that it’s almost IMPOSSIBLE TO AVOID benefiting from federal “aid” at some time or another.

I am sure Representative Bachmann is a fine person. She had a stellar career at the state level. She has been relatively ineffective in the big picture of things since hitting Congress. Various reports had her in some trouble until Gov. Palin spoke and campaigned on her behalf.

She remains a largely unvetted figure. Republican voters need to buck up and demand answers to the holds in her narrative because once the MSM sets their sights on her, she will be destroyed.

Shallow you are. And bitter.

I've tracked you posts for a while and this is the part that really ticks you off. Sorry, but nobody was going to save JD the buffoon. Now, please move along.

This is all moot once Palin enters. Bachmann is in for more. Bachmann started the nasty attacks on Palin. We’ll see who makes the better case.

He's benefiting right now, along with every other politician.
I doubt anybody gives a crap if she ever did.

The rules on what constitutes a financial interest that must be disclosed can be different than what actually benefits, or provides revenue, to a person.

It’s completely possible neither she nor her husband got a penny from the father-in-law’s farm, yet it was still required to be disclosed as a potentail financial interent.

It happens.

Bachmann had been good. I liked that she seemed to be in the Palin mode, but it’s interesting how she turned so easily sending Rollins out with an insulting attack and just giving him a wink. I would still think her acceptable, but she is not Palin who I believe has a better case and status in a presidential election. But Bachmann has lost my respect as a person for the attack dog she sent out on Palin and that she couldn’t make her case better than that after Palin helped her like you said headed up to MN when she was in trouble for reelection.
