Technically, yes. Practically, no. Do you think a legislature that just passed fake "marriage" is going to potentially undo what it just passed with a counter attempt?
I convinced someone the other day of this very thing. The time might be right for it, but I doubt that measure could gather 67 votes in the Senate, especially with the bogus Gallup poll recently that said that more Americans support gay marriage than oppose it. That poll is obviously bogus, considering even liberal Maine and California went out of their way to vote down so-called “same-sex marriage” not too long ago, but the politicians will still use it as an excuse.
How dare these elitists do this. They can afford to send their children to the best private schools, their children won’t be hit with the truama of being taught lies that it is ok to be perverted in your personal life. My heart cries for the little children in the inner cities who must suffer the cruelty of everyday life, only to be hit with more assualts to their innocent minds that are already under attack, when they attend school and their minds are assualted in this cruel way. I am mad about this. Is anyone thinking about the defenseless amoung us? The children. This is so wrong!

This is a totally separate issue - the citizens of New York are sick of politicians passing laws that they don’t like. Everything from budgets to leash laws - even if its citizens DON’T agree with them, they currently have NO SAY in the process. THAT is why this bill is going to be passed - the citizens WANT to be able to control the politicians through referendum.
The ONLY recourse NY citizens currently have is through the ballot box, voting OUT politicians. But, they NEVER vote out enough at one time to make the new legislature repeal the laws they don’t like.
Referendum takes the power away from the legislature and places it DIRECTLY in the hands of the electorate. Don’t like a law? Collect enough signatures, place the repeal on the ballot, and repeal it DIRECTLY by the citizens.
This is what we do in MD [we have constitutional referendum]. The legislature just passed a “DREAM Act”, giving illegals in-state tution at colleges. this is EXTREMELY OPPOSED by something like 75% of MD citizens. Signatures have ALMOST ALL been collected and the repeal WILL be on the 2012 ballot - AND WE WILL REPEAL IT!
In NY, gay marriage will be a casualty of referendum, once it is passed ...
check out:
Maine repealed the law with 53% in 2009, Kalifornia voted in a pro-marriage amendment with 52% in 2008. I would hazard that NY would also be really, really close with any sort of popular vote on the subject.
Arizona failed to pass a pro-marriage amendment in 2006 with 51% voting against it, then passed it by 56% in 2008. So it seems that it can swing back. The general trend seems to be more and more accepting “gay marriage” as opposed to decades past. Abortion seems to be heading in the other direction, so maybe there is hope for the marriage issue.

If true, that is good news indeed. Good luck, but I’m still doubtful.
It’s just the homos being tolerant of other people’s opinions. Harassment is what they do best.
Maybe they should all just get married now. They wanted it so bad.

The general trend is in favor, particularly amongst young voters, who are heavily in favor. What is keeping marriage down right now is that the opposition has been allowed to frame the argument as “Civil rights vs. Bigotry.” If and when that can be turned around, support for “gay marriage” will decline. Abortion could be the example way for so-cons to turn the debate around. The “pro-choicers” are losing ground since the debate has switched from privacy rights to whether the child is a human life, which it undeniably is. We need to make marriage about every child having a mother and a father, and that means we might have to expand the battle to include the instant no-fault divorce front in order to win on the “gay marriage” front.
What sad little people. Bunch of Godless heathens anyway.
I’ve got one as well.

NYS is a socialist dictatorship populated by demented subjects, not citizens.
This will be the catalyst that triggers the next secession, and this time the degenerate communist sex pervert baby killing thieves and cowards populating the socialist states are going to let us go without firing a shot.
There is no way to mark a troll as "abusive" on the email system when the troll isn't posting any comments, just sending e-mails. Please advise how this is done as I'm not aware.
Its not possible to solve the problem in NY and the other socialist states at the ballot box.
Luckily they haven't built a wall to keep sane people from escaping yet, but that's coming next.
They already tax residents of other states that work there, next will be a fee for leaving.

Thank you.
The NY courts will never allow citizen referendums, been tried before.
