I'm sure I speak for our NY FRiends when I say that your comment should be limited to the far SE corner of the state. From what I've seen, much of the rest of the state is right of moderate to very conservative. If it were possible to excise the NYC metro area out of the state, everyone would be better off.
Of course, "conservative" is relative depending on your part of the country. I'm sure a NY "conservative" would seem like a loony Austin liberal down here in Texas.
