I am probably one of the few people in the Panhandle who did not vote for "Pretty Boy" Rick Perry in the past election.
I voted for the ex-mayor of Houston, whose name I no longer remember. The only reason I remind you of that is because I want you to know I don't like his politics or anything else about him. I am a Republican, which means "pariah" these days. But I ramble.
Gov. Perry vetoed the bill that former House Speaker Tom Craddick (from Midland) introduced to the Legislature. The young lady who died texting in Seagraves got a lot of state and national press. Her parents quit their jobs and started an all-out campaign to focus attention on banning texting for all ages. I don't know why Perry thinks that banning texting is OK for teens (it is illegal for anyone younger than 19) but not for adults. Adults can barely text while sitting on their couch with their bifocals on.
Anyone with a modicum of intelligence would see the truth in that.
Ah ... I rest my case.

Second: Rick Perry vetoed the "texting" bill because:
Gov. Perry Vetoes HB 242
TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME:
Pursuant to Article IV, Section 14, of the Texas Constitution, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby disapprove of and veto House Bill No. 242 as passed by the Eighty-Second Texas Legislature, Regular Session, because of the following objections:
Texting while driving is reckless and irresponsible. I support measures that make our roads safer for everyone, but House Bill 242 is a government effort to micromanage the behavior of adults. Current law already prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from texting or using a cell phone while driving. I believe there is a distinction between the overreach of House Bill 242 and the government's legitimate role in establishing laws for teenage drivers who are more easily distracted and laws providing further protection to children in school zones.
The keys to dissuading drivers of all ages from texting while driving are information and education. I recommend additional education on this issue in driving safety and driver's education courses, public service ads, and announcements, and I encourage individuals and organizations that testified in favor of the anti-texting language included in this bill to work with state and local leaders to educate the public of these dangers.
Since the Eighty-Second Texas Legislature, Regular Session, by its adjournment has prevented the return of this bill, I am filing these objections in the office of the Secretary of State and giving notice thereof by this public proclamation according to the aforementioned constitutional provision.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have signed my name officially and caused the Seal of the State to be affixed hereto at Austin, this 17th day of June, 2011.
RICK PERRY Governor of Texas
ATTESTED BY: ESPERANZA "HOPE" ANDRADE Secretary of State

thank you.
I like Perry...no he’s not perfect, so far he has the strongest chance of beating Obozo.
Poor decision and reasoning by Perry, but not enough reason to vote for a lib instead! I don’t know if I’ll vote for him yet if he runs.
Rush: “The Left always lets you know which Conservatives they fear the most.”
Yup.
A non scientific poll: Several of my conservative friends are for the first time excited about a candidate who just might be able to take on Obozo AND be electtable.
Perry will really take it to them.
And he really has both fiscal and social Conservative credibility.

“Perry has pleased pro-life advocates in Texas many times with signing pro-life legislation most recently signing an ultrasound bill allowing women to see them before an abortion and hopefully changing their minds on it. He has been strongly supported by pro-life groups. Perry supported or signed into law the Womens Right to Know Act and the Prenatal Protection Act in 2003, parental consent law in 2005, and funding for alternatives to abortions in 2007 and 2009.”

Be careful about your enthusiasm for Perry. Remember that he was elected to the Texas Legislature in 1984 as a Democrat. Also, in 2007, Perry issued an executive order mandating that Texas girls receive HPV vaccine. Both of these events would discourage conservatives from voting for Perry.
Thanks for that info. Perry seems boldly pro-life, which is what I want from a potential president. Couldn`t care less he used to be a dem, shows he thinks and can admit he was wrong. Some of my favorite people are ex-dems, like Reagan and my parents.
At least the idiot didn’t vote for Farook Shami.
As to your first point about Perry, don’t forget the Reagan was a Democrat at one time.
Apparently you STILL dont get it. PERRY IS ONLY A CONSERVATIVE AT ELECTION TIME!! There, maybe that will help.
SO WHAT!
People change. I was raised by a union pipefitter...and when I went to Texas A&M in the Fall of '88, I was a democrat. Matter of fact, the entire area in Brazoria county where I grew up were DEMOCRATS. When I was in junior high, most of the church I went to (a SBC church) were democrats.
In the election of '88, there were less than 10% of the students at A&M who voted for Dukakis...I was one of those 10%.
Now...I am as fiscally conservative and MORE socially conservative than most people on this site. Rush Limbaugh is to the left of me...and that is no joke.
People changed. ESPECIALLY people in Texas. In that same church (running 400 in SS back in that day) today...you would be had pressed to find a democrat. There was a tectonic shift with Reagan. Perry was one of the shifters. Mine occurred a little later as I voted for Ann Richards the first time for Gov. It wasn't until 1993 that I began to more towards conservatism...and that thanks to Bill Clinton.
In 1976 in our precinct, the dims held their precinct meetings at a clubhouse...and the GOP in a living room (because their weren't a lot of them). Now....the situation is almost reversed. PEOPLE CHANGE.
As far as the HPV...there was ALWAYS the opt out. That's the way it is in Texas...you can and always have had the opportunity to opt out.
And...as Perry has always done (which is what we are supposed to want in politicians...RIGHT?)...when he makes a mistake and hears it from the people...he stops what he is doing.
I find it AMAZING that you are damned if you do and damned if you don't by some people. He made a mistake...heard the will of the people...and STOPPED the mistake. What more could you want from a politician? No mistakes at all? Well good luck on getting your "IDEAL" candidate.
Reagan was also a democrat. Sheesh.
ZERO chance the letter writer is actually a Republican, zero.
ZERO.
Yeah, and it ain't Rick Perry -- they're drooling at the prospect of the GOP nominating another RiNO -- it's Sarah Palin.
Perry is pro-Open Borders. He's against the Border Fence. He's in favor of selling off public infrastructure to private international investor groups so they can charge us tolls and rents to use our own damn infrastructure.
Rick Perry loves big-rich rentseekers and is in the pockets of the Trammel Crows, Perry Homes, and Tyson chicken people. He's on a first-name basis with Bo Pilgrim, the other chickenmonger. The CINTRA-Zackry combine is one of his favorites -- they wanted to build the NASCO Corridor (the "NAFTA Superhighway" so-called by some), for the benefit of hush-hush superrich investors, including the king of Spain. All those guys own Perry. It was in all the papers four years ago.
Perry has no use for ordinary Texans. The only issue he's been consistent on is, he's pro-life and good on RKBA issues (he'd better be -- this is Texas!). But he's also pro-McShamnesty and doesn't seem to care that a few years of that would make the Texas GOP a receding memory, and America a strife-riven, "bicultural" country. He just doesn't care.
No, he doesn't.
The ink is still wet on his bill gutting the State Board of Education and taking the textbook selection power away from them, because Perry moved to placate liberal groups like People for the American Way and the Bush family, who hate, hate, hate!! social conservatives.
And did I mention that Poppy and Barbara Bush think social conservatives are lower than snake-droppings?
It was the State Board of Ed that has really carried the fight against the NEA and their national brainwashing -- and against the New World Order promoters like Poppy Bush, who want people to forget all about American citizenship, all about American virtues, values and Exceptionalism, and celebrate instead something called the North American Union. </barf>
Still in favor of Perry? He will cure you!
But I ramble.Yes, you do.
Texting.... blah, blah, blah...
Gardisil... blah, blah, blah...
Meanwhile, Perry is currently fighting -- and has previously fought -- Obama's Socialist Government. And I like that. I like that a lot.
But I ramble.
"We need those individuals to continue to grow our economy," Perry told a briefing with reporters.
"If you show up illegally, without your card or you're here as a criminal element, I'm for throwing the book at those folks, but the issue of people who want to legally, thoughtfully and appropriately come to America to work and help us build our economy -- we should quickly come up with a program and an identification card to do that."
Congress failed to pass a comprehensive overhaul of immigration laws in June despite heavy lobbying by President George W. Bush.
Following the reform failure, Washington is concentrating on border enforcement -- building a security fence along the Mexican border, deporting undocumented immigrants and trying to prevent companies from hiring illegal migrants..
Perry, a Republican, said it was important to separate immigration from security issues, which Texas has dealt with on its stretch of the Mexican border by deploying more guards.
"We know how to deal with border security, and you don't do it by building a fence," Perry said, ahead of a meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderon.... [end excerpt]

".....As Texas moves toward expanding Secure Communities, several northern states are dropping out of the program that matches the fingerprints of those arrested against a U.S. [ICE] database.
Last week, before Gov. Rick Perry's announcement that the expansion of Secure Communities would be on the agenda for the Legislature's special session, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick announced his state will not take part in the program. [end excerpt]
