OXFORD, Mich. (WXYZ) - A mother and daughter are being treated for bites after the family pit bull went on the attack.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Department says a mother and daughter were arguing early Thursday morning inside their home in Oxford Township. That's when the family dog attacked the daughter. The mother then tried to pull the pit bull away and was also attacked.
Three other children inside the home locked themselves in a closet to keep to hide from the vicious dog.
When deputies arrived at the home the mother was on the porch and the dog was still inside the home. One deputy approached the animal which started growling and showing its teeth. The deputy was forced to shoot the dog which ran out the door. It was later found outside the home and was put down.
An Oakland County Animal Control officer found a second pit bull inside and removed it from the home.
The 39-year-old mother and 16-year-old daughter were treated at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital and released, the children inside the home were not injured.
She gets her showers in the kitchen sink....:)
I think it is adorable! The good thing is your stepdad knew he could go to the store, on a trip, whatever... and his lovely wife was being guarded! That is truly a comfort. I know, for example, when my husband is on a business trip that my 110 pound baby makes sure that no harm comes to us. He actually get more protective when “Daddy” is gone. I guess that’s what they do!
I had a feeling it wasn’t a golden retriever gone nutso.
Lol.
Because they are absolutely the best for guarding meth labs.
She likes her pig ear “on the hoof” as it were.
My mom said it felt very empowering to have, at her instant command, to either attack or withdraw - one hundred pounds of canine fury.
What is so amazing is she can be called off so quickly. She must be all business and wanting to be told “enough”. Of course, everyone listens to grammies!
My dog hated children.Directly attributed to two vicious little demons I caught throwing rocks at him while he was outside in our very securely fenced back yard.
Every neighborhood has at least one of “those families” around.
Their incredibly stupid father thought I was insane, when I told him his children were courting certain death, if he failed to controll their behavior.
(And yes, after I discovered what my stupid neighbors ignorant children were doing, I could never allow my dog outside in our very secure back yard, without direct supervision, and we could never allow him to be around children again, at all.)
Sigh.
Yes, I value human life above animals.
I taught my own child to respect other peoples property and pets, especially dogs.
If a dog attacks and harms a child, even under extreme provocation, the dog, and also the owner, is at fault.
It is sometimes a pain to haul around those 200 lbs, or even a 140 lb Bull Mastiff. That is why I say “active” when I say that no dog breed has ever impressed me like a fit “active” Bull Mastiff.
An inactive Mastiff or Bull Mastiff isn't that great of a dog. They do one hell of a job guarding their bed and the fire - and not much else. You if you are by their bed or the fire - but not if you are out and about.
My brother had to force his lazy Bull Mastiff to “do the rounds” on the property he was caretaker of. She would have rather stayed home, the darn lazy critter! Lucky for my brother HE WASN'T HAVING IT!
One night he heard a bunch of deer that had jumped the fence startle and hit the fence, then reverse and come towards him. The does went to either side, but the buck lowered his antlers and charged straight ahead.
“Freya” the Bull Mastiff sprung into action and hit the buck with her chest, knocking his antlers into the chain link fence and breaking its neck.
That dog ate venison - prime cut - for a month.
They should have had their gate locked I admit - I don't blame the child, I don't blame the parents, and I certainly don't blame the dog (tackling strange people and holding them until they get sorted out is their raison d’etre) - so I guess I have to blame the owners for not locking that gate.
Either way, those parents were lucky it wasn't a dog that would have bit the child.
A claw scrape and being held is better than being mauled - by a long shot.
Hybrids have been some of the best dogs I have ever seen, but sometimes the worst, and from the same litter!
Lots of variability with mixes.
Labs are great friendly loving dogs, but they can be ‘nippy’ sometimes - that must be watched out for - with draconian vigilance when they are half Pit.
I think you were reading the thread where I told about the neighbor’s dogs killing and eating his baby. He was a city cop and thought he knew it all.
That’s good to know. The strange thing about these puppies is that they really don’t bite that much but seem to love to jump, more so than any puppies I’ve dealt with. They certainly have the appetite of a Lab.
LOL! I hope you have a dishwasher- or use paper plates!
“Unknown to either of them - but possibly not the dog - wife was pregnant.”
Huh, that’s very interesting. I’m glad everyone was OK.
I worked for a couple of different guys who had trained “command” dogs. One was a belgian shepherd and one was a doberman (both very sweet dogs, the shepherd esp. was a lovey). On 2 different occasions I raised my hand to my bosses, just as a gesture you realize, and in both cases the dogs were right there. Not in my face, you know, but ready to get there.
A little intimidating.
They were both very well trained dogs.
She’s a very clean dog and I clean out the sink.
:)
“Unknown to either of them - but possibly not the dog - wife was pregnant.
Dogs can smell *every* minute change in body odor.
She probably smelled like a veritable cloud of estrogen and progesterone to the dog.
Of course it knew.
My 6th-grade teacher, a male, had a Bull Mastiff. He would bring it to school from time-to-time and it would lie at the side of his desk all day. Mostly disinterested in the class. I remember being impressed how bulky he was.
I’m not a dog expert, though I do have four of my own, but if I remember right that Mastiff’s temperment was completely different of the Pit Bulls I’m familiar with today.
Normal public school. Not a one room school house. I couldn’t imagine anybody doing that today.
