Former NARAL-NY head pleaded guilty to falsely claiming $75,000 in personal luxuries on her expense account were work-related. Kelli Conlin admitted to spending at least $75,000 on clothes, meals, car service, child care -- and $13,000 toward a Hamptons summer renta from 2007-2010. Due to the 18 yr duration of her job, the exact loss was impossible to quantify.

To someone who openly promotes murder, embezzlement is probably just considered to be a minor infraction.

AG Schneiderman regulates charities...he received the abortion-rights group’s potent endorsement during last year’s contentious Democratic primary. The AG’s father, Irwin Schneiderman, was NARAL’s treasurer during the period covered by the audit.
NARAL has slipped into the red running up a deficit of at least $417,616 in 2009--taking in $310,324 in revenue, according to its public financial statements.....listing only $171,255 in salaries and compensation on its balance sheet, even though it listed elsewhere five employees earning over $100,000. Conlin's compensation package was worth $349,502, including a $90,000 bonus.

L/E should look at Conlin’s NARAL credit card. Monies intended for the organization could have been deposited into a NARAL bank account linked to a credit card.....the bank could have been directed to transfer the monies to the credit card. That way Conlin’s extravagances could have been covered with no one being the wiser.
Conlin received a non-jail sentence, and will not be incarcerated unless she fails to pay the $75,000 back within a month, in which case she faces anywhere from 1 and 1/3 to four years prison
So she basically got a slap on the wrist and has to pay back a fraction of what she stole over the years. Nice job if you can get it.
She obviously scammed much much more-—but the $75K plea was the smallest amt she could admit to and get off scot-free.
This is good news - her greed and self-absorption may have inadvertently saved lives. I guess one of the natural setbacks for an organization dedicated to the ultimate act of selfishness is that its officers will live its creed in all aspects of their lives.
