I'd like to visit Gettysburg as well. I've never been there.
I recommend it. Both times I’ve gone, I’ve felt like I was walking back in time. My appreciation for what our forefathers experienced was overwhelming.
Younger kid and mom went on a school trip to DC and the surrounding historical sites and said it was an amazing experience. My dad’s best friend was killed in Viet Nam and they did a rubbing of his name on the DC wall and made a shadow box of it to give him as a keepsake. So much history in such a small area, I think we should all put a trip like that on our bucket lists. Maybe plan it for 2013 to bring a sign to the white house that says “Welcome Palin family! We love you!”
If you ever get a chance, the battlefields at Perryville, Fort Donelson and Shiloh are wonderful. Too far off the beaten path for most tourists, these battlefields are still in quite pristine condition.
