It’s important to point out that there is a huge difference in the Texas Dream Act and the The Dream Act that was pushed in Congress and failed. The Dream Act in Congress was full of all kinds of goodies other than allowing children of illegals to receive in state tuition. The Texas Dream Act was focused only on that. I happen to agree with The Texas Dream Act, and so did everyone in the Senate in Texas. It passed with ZERO “no” votes. Add to that, it has been proven to be successful.
These are a few things you need to know about the Texas Dream Act. The child has to have lived in Texas the three years leading up to high school graduation. These students are given no special treatment in getting into Texas colleges and universities. They must get in on their own merit. They are paying the tuition (with or without financial aid). It’s estimated that these students make up about 1% of those entering college.

If there is anyone who we can trust to do that it is Gov. Perry (if he decides to run for President). He knows what goes on down at the border. He has gone there many times. Frankly I am just as tired of paying for the emergency care as I am for the other freebies.
I hear yas. In Dallas, at Parlkand nearly 90% of babies are born to illegals and we pay for that plus pay fo their entire lives from then on.
Legally( federal law) we are required to offer “emergency” are to everyone But we don’t need to offer years of follow up treatment.
It sounds cold hearted to say ONLY give emergency care to stablize a situation but we can’t afford more than that any longer and still give care to our legal citizens who need it.
I am not sure we have the stomach to do anything but if we wait any longer we are sunk

Because we were on snooze for a couple of generation on enforcing immigration laws. Decent God fearing Mexicans therefore were not required and predictably failed to comply with these laws, of which they were not informed. These people have been and still are gardeners and housekeepers and laborors who were paid mostly in cash, and raised educated children who are now shop keepers. To “deport them all” is not only insane and excruciatingly expensive, it’s now cruel, given the state of Mexico, a country they hardly know.
Because we failed to set a standard for so long, no elected president or anyone else, I mean NO ONE, is EVER going to send decent families into drug cartel country to fend for themselves where they are not equipped to survive the corruption, simply because the US succored these people and dumped over enforcement.
(1) So, someone posts an article on FR in what seems to be an attempt to help/promote Rick Perry's potential presidential campaign (which I don't have a problem with them doing); but when someone raises some concerns, the reply is: you're not a Texan, mind your own business?
(2) My question was about children who are here illegally (who are not born in the USA). This bill seems to be designed to provide benefits to students that are here illegally (not born in the USA).
(3) If the bill is about anchor babies (children born on US soil), then my question would be: what's the point of the bill in the first place? Anyone born on US soil is an American citizen. Any American citizen that has lived in a state for an extended period of time (at least 1 year for most states) is a citizen of that state and entitled to ALL of the benefits provided to any citzen of the state (including preferntial treatment at state colleges).
So what's the deal with this bill? Is it designed to open the door for illegal immigrants to attend Texas colleges, or is it a pointless exercise (because it is only about anchor babies-who are Ameican citizens)?

Because I said that I liked the idea of Perry getting into the race, you stated that I supported the invasion of criminals. That is false. I also don’t support anyone pretending to be a citizen.

I'm not settled on anyone right now as the field is just now getting established. It's inane to support anyone exclusively now until we hear the positions and philosophies held. I do like Bachmann, Santorum, and Cain (very guardedly) because they have expressed the most conservative positions to date. If they disappoint on firm conservative philosophy going forward, that may change.
I'm not "married" to any individual candidate apart from their conservative convictions. Perry is good in many respects, but his border whoredom is inexcusable.

I like Michelle Bachmann too. I really like what Santorum has to say.....but I just don’t think he has the numbers.
At least the majority of these candidates are forcing the public to hear some good, conservative ideas for a change.
And yet he still came out loud and clear against AZ1070 which would actually accomplishing something towards the goal of solving the Illegal Immigration problem.
This effectively makes every other largely symbolic statements/actions of no effect.
The one thing that would actually solve the problem he is against.
That should be an eye-opener for anyone seriously considering this conniving politician for POTUS 2012.

If you were to judge just on pure conservatism, Santorum would win hands down, regardless of his past endorsement of Spector. But it’s a sad commentary on our country that staunch conservatism is now a political liability.

Rick Perry is a man to be taken seriously, warts and all. He has a story to tell, and I would welcome his entry into the GOP presidential field.

(1) Border control is a Federal responsibility. Criticism of all border states (California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas) is ill received. If you do not donate to the UT or A&M system, please butt out. Those of us that have graduated students in these state systems are proud. We did not take any of “your money”.
(2)We the people of the Great State of Texas get to choose how we invest our money. We are damned if we choose to educate those that the worthless Coyotes traffic in, while others condemn us. Please help other people. Or continue to deride fellow Americans.
(3) I am the result of an “anchor baby” from European ancestors. Perhaps you are too. Please tell me what we should do with the undesired (to some) that are born in Texas? Abort them, deport them, or simply abandon them? Our prisons are full.
