The local media, especially the tv stations, put every whining teacher event big coverage...but they RARELY report on this kind of crap. No, instead they sing the same tune as the union thugs, bashing Rick Scott every time they get the opportunity.

And CA pays lifeguards $200,000.

Government funding should be cut in half. As a start. Just cut about $2T from the federal government as an intial whack.

They act like they've cut as far as they possibly can. Nope. Not even started. Anybody have a chainsaw?

The idea is to UNDERCUT captialism.

The FREE market would NEVER pay a former janitor that kind of a salary to “teach”. Unions do NOT want competition.

It gets better!

“It wasn’t clear Tuesday what else Hedland would be qualified to teach. He has no college degree or state teaching certificate, though he is certified for vocational education through the district.”

He is not even QUALIFIED and all they worry about is the MONEY!

I've always been a proponent of zero based budgeting. The problem with public sector budgeting is that it's incremental.
The jumping off point is what you (as a gov't dept or program or initiative) got last year and it's either increased or decreased a small increment. New programs come on top of that and old useless programs have no way of being weeded out - resulting in every increasing budgets (and deficits).
Zero based budgeting basically says evey program starts each budget with nothing and the program needs to rejustify itself and every dollar into it also has to be justified.
We don't need to zero base budget every year, but once every 5 years would weed out a lot of costs which provide the public no (or maybe negative) benefit.
If we don't want to end up like Greece or Spain, we better get our act together PDQ..

The Union Leader in Manchester,NH published its annual list of the states highest paid employees. I believe there were about 200 with a $100k or more salary/compensation. The govenor was about #80 on the list @ $113k.

This is why so many states are in the hole. It is becoming commonplace for state employees to be making more than they would in the private sector. This does not even consider what they are making in retirement.

Can we get this news out to the Florida people? Rick Scott is under assault by the Florida media and teachers unions. Here is a prime example of how the schools are screwed up here.
