Magician and Miss USA judge Penn Jillette says he's happy a pageant queen from Tennessee lost to Miss California USA Alyssa Campanella because her onstage answer to a question about burning Qurans ran afoul of the First Amendment.
[snip]
Durham responded to a question about whether burning religious items should be afforded the same constitutional protections as flag burning by saying it crossed a line and shouldn't be allowed.

“Durham said in a statement Tuesday that she’s disappointed with Jillette’s comments. She says it’s uncalled for that he would delight in shooting down her dreams.”

It is a gotcha question that has no place in this type of pageant. The correct answer should be something like:
“That would be a question best answered by our supreme court" not a 20 year old girl trying to get a college scholarship.

Gotta agree with Mr. Jillette on this one. People should not be banned from burning, trashing, maiming or otherwise desecrating their own privately owned property, regardless of how others feel about said property.

The reason they ask the questions is to allow the judges to discriminate between the contestants.
The questions recently have been more and more political, but that’s why people watch the show, is for the controversy. And the after-pageant controversies help promote the product, too.

Definitely not guilty. I'd be willing to spend many hours explaining the Bill of Rights to the young lady, as I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding.

because her onstage answer to a question about burning Qurans ran afoul of the First Amendment. So, she said something he didn't like so he falls back on the first amendment by saying she had no right to her first amendment rights. Typical liberal response or simply an idiot.

If she had said feel free to burn the Quoran, they would have hung her for that.
There was no answer she could give that would have passed, she was suckered.
