CALIFORNIA Controller: legislators will not collect their pay
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 6/21/11 | Wyatt Buchanan, Chronicle Sacramento Bureau

Posted on 06/21/2011 12:35:57 PM PDT by SmithL

The budget passed by the Legislature on June 15 was incomplete and unbalanced and lawmakers will not receive any pay until they approve a balanced pending plan, Controller John Chiang announced today.

The controller's decision has been highly anticipated at the Capitol since Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed a budget plan passed by only Democrats on a majority vote.

Chiang found that the budget authorized $89.75 billion in spending, but revenues totaled only $87.9 billion, leaving an imbalance of $1.85 billion.

"My office's careful review of the recently-passed budget found components that were miscalculated, miscounted or unfinished," Chiang said. "The numbers simply did not add up, and the Legislature will forfeit their pay until a balanced budget is sent to the governor." . . .

It’s a good day when Democrats are beating up on each other.

Who’s this Chiang? Can we have him oversee the budget in DC?

They ought to balance it out of their paychecks.

Good start.

But to REALLY fix California, you need to find a way to get the legion of government employees to not collect their fat pensions.

WOW!! A democrat that actually did what was right for a change. Honestly, I think he realizes the heat he would have received from the people if this “budget scam to maintian their pay and perks” from the state’s democrat legislative body were allowed.

Does also include thieir $147.00 a day per diem they get plus their cars or allowance.. and other perks..It is probably just their salary.. and I could live nicely on $147 a day perdiem..

From everything I've read and heard, the Democrats have refused to discuss real pension and regulatory reform. There has been no real dialogue on crafting a rational budget for California.

I have no idea why we even have legislators up there if they refuse to deal with reality.

“Who’s this Chiang? Can we have him oversee the budget in DC?”

Chiang is a self important wack-a-doodle that never fails to get his name involved with anything that might get press or television coverage. He has much higher political aspirations.

WOW!!! I didn’t think he would do it. I figured the Dems had all their cards played to keep their paychecks rolling in while they stalled to get more money to spend.

I’d bet they thought so too.

NOT going to hold my breath for sanity in Sacramento though.

I’ll bet that somehow, some way a way is found to skirt this pay stoppage. At least they’ll no doubt collect per diem as that is not pay. They’ll probably be able to draw on future per diem, calling it a loan, and in the end those loans probably will never be paid back.

California law makers are too sleezy and crooked to allow this to happen to them.
