Washington (CNN) -- It's mid-June, a perfect time to visit the beach to watch porpoises play in the surf or seagulls strut the sand -- or you could watch a formation of Marine Corps warplanes darting over the shore at hundreds of miles per hour. But don't worry -- the United States hasn't declared war on your family's beach house. It's just part of a major Marine Corps exercise called Exercise Mailed Fist (translation: armored fist).

I am very happy the USMC are getting the training they need.
Years ago we used to do a big exercise called Solid Shield.
It’s called training.

The tinfoil crowd will probably flip over it.
I like them to do this on the az border and use the border as a bombing range
They have to spread it out all over the east coast because east coast ranges just plain suck. Vieques is missed, although shutting everything down in P.R. made me laugh.
Does Wallops Island, VA do anything anymore?
What do I think?
I bet they are getting ready for a vacation on the northern border of Libya - no problem though because we are not at war and this will be done in weeks, not months, as Obama told us months ago concerning the air support for the kinetic military action.
Either that or Syria/Lebanon, but I’m guessing we need to have the taxpayers of the US pay for the European Socialist community to receive their oil, and then borrow money from China to cover the shortfall because no one is working...
Just my guess.
too bad, I would love to see the marines come ashore in Santa Cruz near me or in San Francisco.
that would be the site to see!
Sooooo, frikkin’, WHAT???? I have vacationed at Gulf Shores and Fort Morgan, AL for YEARS! One of my FAVORITE things is running on to the beach waving a towel as the Blue Angels pass over doing practice early in the morning! If they see you........they come back to put on a show. Love it, love it, LOVE IT!
Fabulous! You sit on the beach in the aftermath, I’ll pass. They been spraying us since the 40’s.
I’m not sure. Vieques was nice because it was the one range in the Atlantic you could do gunfire support and air support to the same range. One could argue that hasn’t been a critical skill lately, but we’ve maintained a strategic arsenal we haven’t used, as well.
My wife and I will be on Top Sail Beach Wednesday morning for a nice walk and swim around 7:00AM...let’s hope the Marines are still getting up early, can’t wait to see them.
Living where we do every day is an air show day with flyovers by the Marines.
I know, I was just thinking out loud, but nothing would surprise me in this day and age.
