Gov. Rick Perry this evening announced the addition of TSA anti-groping legislation to the agenda for the special legislative session. In a statement, he said lawmakers could consider legislation "relating to the prosecution and punishment for the offense of official oppression on those seeking access to public buildings and transportation."
The announcement came after state Rep. David Simpson, R-Longview a Tea Party favorite sent a letter to Perry on Sunday requesting HB 41 be added to the call, after attempts to pass it during the regular session were thwarted when the Department of Justice suggested the measure was in violation of federal law.
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, in his own statement, said he was "very pleased" Perry added the bill to the call. "The Obama Administration overstepped its bounds by implicitly threatening to shut down air traffic in Texas if we passed this bill. After working closely with the Attorney General's Office the last few weeks, I'm confident that we can pass legislation that addresses these threats, while protecting innocent passengers and preserving our state's rights," he said.
The bill would criminalize any intentional, knowing or reckless touching of a person's private parts during a security screening, including through clothing. John E. Murphy, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas, wrote in a letter to the Texas House and Senate that Simpson's bill would interfere with the TSAs civil aviation security responsibilities. The letter and a regular session visit of two TSA officers to Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston and the Senate sponsor of the bill, effectively killed support for it.

I too think Texas needs a Arizona type Law, but we would be remiss if we did not mention that Perry did send the Texas Rangers to go help deal with the Mexicans.
Indeed wasn’t it just last week that we heard about the Rangers getting into a gun fight with the Mexicans over the Rio Grande River?
Clearly Perry is not doing nothing about the immigration problem.
Just watch and listen to him, is all one needs to do.
I'll have to do more research on why the bad blood between Perry and the Bushes. What I seem to be reading is that Perry has accused Bush of being a RINO (although not using that word)
Perry has said the cervical cancer vaccine is no different than the one that protects children against polio.
If there are diseases in our society that are going to cost us large amounts of money, it just makes good economic sense, not to mention the health and well being of these individuals to have those vaccines available, he said.
Texas allows parents to opt out of inoculations by filing an affidavit stating that he or she objected to the vaccine for religious or philosophical reasons.

I said COMPARED to Romney, Newt et al, he is a rock star.
Last time I checked, Sarah had not declared.
And you’re right. She IS a rock star.
Sadly, she just cannot win.
good point
It definitely sounds like he's doing things on the issue of illegal immigration and border security.
Good luck to Texas on this.
Uh...please get your facts straight. Either 1) You are ignorant of the facts or 2) You are deliberately trying to mislead.
No...it was not mandatory. As with all vaccinations in Texas...there was a way to opt out. Parents could opt out and still have their children attend public schools.
Perry has his faults for sure. But, unlike most politicians, when he makes a mistake and the people tell him they don't like it...he LISTENS to the will of the people because that is what elected officials are SUPPOSED to do.
As far as this bill is concerend: It was brought up in regular session...and passed the house unanimously (if I recall correctly). It got stuck in the senate because of some dem sowed fears.
You don't put things on the special session in Texas (If you are the Gov) if you 1) Don't think they will pass and 2) Don't want them to pass.
they now know they have the votes in the senate...and this is why it was added to the special session.
Yet another poster from outside the state that really doesn't know much about the situation.
We have numerous members of my military unit on border orders right now...and they just got extended. Perry...and the state...would do much more but the funding isn't there. It takes $ and we are actually in a much better situation in our state than most...but still can't afford to go into debt to do the Fed's job.
Again...there are a lot of state and national guard on orders right now along the border and they were just extended. They are only there because Perry (mainly him) pushed the Fed gov't for the funding to do this.
Is that correct...or not?
