A mother who shocked America by drowning her five children in the bathtub may be freed by the end of the year, according to her lawyer.
Andrea Yates systematically murdered her children, aged between six months and seven years, at her suburban Clear Lake, Texas, home ten years ago today.
She then dialled 911 and told the first police officer who arrived at the house: 'I just killed my kids.'

She should have been executed years ago. I could care less if she was crazy or was not crazy. She is a demon.
I don’t believe in affirmative action for psycho-killers
Why give crazy people a pass when they kill five of their own children? Try and execute them same as the regular killers
It’s hard to believe what it’s like living with a control freak husband. My dad literally drove my mom crazy. She hears voices that tell her to do things; she believes the voices are from God. Thankfully thus far the voices have only told her to write things and give Special Messages to pastors.
I never believed any of the whole insanity claims until after I had to live through the nightmare. For those who haven’t been there, please be thankful.
Yes, but your mother didn’t kill five babies. Sure people are or go insane, but when they become criminally insane and commit murder, they should be executed just as all murderers should be.
LOL!!
Or....”Mama Told me Not to come “ ...( “Jokers to the Left of me, Jokers to the right, stuck in the middle again...”)
Good point you raised there!
Yes, we DO have to know the difference between mentally il and just “darn’d downright evil!”.

I’ve lived around crazy people; I have bene around some real insane people and I am frank when I tell you that I grew up in a chaotic, controlling, cultlike environment. I’ve had mental issues and I know what it’s like. Put frankly she could have gotten help and she had the ability to leave when she had the chance instead of killing her kids.
“she planned it out and acted in the hour between her husband leaving for work and her MIL coming in to help”
Exactly; she had it all set up in her head and acted according to a well laid plan.
Now there’s a plan! (uh, er, that WAS the plan in 1898 or there abouts)...
Seems like Jesus only sent goats over the edge, that were possessed..something to ponder.
Before we had any knowledge of mental illness, we burned people at the stake or considered the mentally ill possessed by demons...now, a good shot of Haldol will cure those who are not really evil.
Better living through chemistry.
She had gotten out of bed around 8:10 and had waited for her husband, Rusty, to leave for work at nine. The children were all awake and eating cereal. Andrea had some, too. Once Rusty was gone, Andrea went into the bathroom to turn on the water and fill the tub. The water came within three inches from the top.
Then one by one, she drowned three of her sons, Luke, age 2; Paul, age 3; and John, age 5. She put them in facedown and held them as they struggled. As each one died, she then placed him face up on a bed, still wet, and then covered all three with a sheet. Each had struggled just a few minutes. Next was six-month-old Mary, the youngest, who had been in the bathroom all this time, sitting on the floor in her bassinet and crying. When Andrea was finished with Mary, she left her floating in the water and called to her oldest son, Noah.
He came right away. ”What happened to Mary?” he asked. Then apparently realizing what his mother was doing, he ran from the bathroom but Andrea chased him down and dragged him back to the tub. She forced him in face down and drowned him right next to Mary. She admitted in her confession that he had put up the biggest struggle of all. At times he managed to slip from her grasp and get some air, but she always managed to push him back down. His last words were, “I’m sorry.” She left him there floating in a tub full of feces, urine and vomit, where police found him. She lifted Mary out and placed her on the bed with her other brothers. Andrea gently covered her before calling the police and her husband. It was time.
Had the children done something to make her want to kill them? The officer asked.
No.
You weren’t mad?
No.
She admitted that she was taking medication for depression and she named her doctor, whom she had seen two days earlier. She believed she was not a good mother because the children were “not developing correctly.” She’d been having thoughts about hurting them over the past two years. She needed to be punished for not being a good mother.
The questioning officer was confused. How was the murder of her children a way to achieve that? “Did you want the criminal justice system to punish you?” he asked.
“Yes.”
She had almost done the same thing two months earlier, she admitted. She had filled the tub. Rusty was home at the time, so she just didn’t do it.
The officer asked for the birth dates of each of her children and then stopped the tape.
The media soon learned that Andrea had suffered from depression for at least two years and had been hospitalized for attempted suicide.
By the end of that first awful day, Andrea Yates was charged with capital murder for “intentionally and knowingly” causing the deaths of three of her children, using water as a weapon. She was not charged in the deaths of the two youngest boys. There was no indication on this report, says Spencer, that she suffered from mental illness.
Yet Rusty was telling the media that she had suffered bouts of serious depression since the birth of their fourth child two years earlier.
In fact, her most recent psychiatrist, Dr. Mohammed Saeed, had called Rusty on the day of the drownings. He appeared to be stunned and apparently wanted to make it clear that he had believed that Rusty’s mother was always at the home.

Your post is excellant. I am sorry you had to go through all that and it must have been awful for your mother.
Sometimes life teaches us hard lessons, and it sounds like you are a very compassionate person and your mom is very lucky to have you. It also sounds like your mother is a very strong person.
Interesting how many freepers are suckered in by this mass murdering woman. She killed her own flesh and blood for no reason at all. There is no justice for them as long as she is alive and she has been alive for ten years more than she deserves.
This demon is bread and butter for parasites in the mental health field who testify on her behalf then minister to her at her treatment center & lockup. Million of taxpayer dollars squandered when a simple bullet in the head or the electric chair would have sufficed and meant justice.
I really don’t understand it. Are these eggheads telling us that she is ok to walk around, be near other children? At this point, I’m not sure who is crazier?
Some people are stronger than others. She obviously felt like she couldn’t get out of her situation. some people also have strong support somewhere.
Only God knows why some people “crack” and others don’t.
It is good to hear you made it through and it must have not been easy for you. thanks for sharing...I am sure it will help others who struggle.
My dolphin was named Jill. She is 48 years old and pregnant for the first time. In captivity dolphins live to be about 55; only 25 in the wild. They keep their babies for three years. Poor Jill is going to barely have time to R & R before she RIP.
I trust she won't drown her baby but if she does, it will be the fault of the father dolphin who should be charged with reverse statutory rape of a senior citizen.
I have some common sense so I look at this very simply. You kill five of your own innocent young children then you get the electric chair. You may be crazy or not crazy. You still get the electric chair. It baffles me why you let a mass murderer off the hook due to real or alleged madness.
Many people are still afraid of anything to do with mental illness. We used to “just put a simple bullet “ in someone’s head or before the 1950’s when we had medication that could help depression and other mental illnesses..we used to “lock away” people who were sick forever.
Now, people can live happy , rewarding lives thanks to good medications and some therapy. Do we really want to go back to the dark ages?
But you are right, it costs taxpayor dollars for those who don’t have insurance..so lets just kill them all or lock them up in prison. ( BTW, it s less expensive to keep the mentally ill in the community than in mental hospitals...that is really why we closed the state hospitals...saving taxpayor dollars.)
Jesus was merciful to the mentally ill and to other ‘defectives” like the man with the ‘withered hand”.
Only the goats were sent over the cliff.
Egghead shrinks have been making millions off Andrea Yates. If she was executed ten years ago then there goes their meal ticket.
