It was a typical early summer evening in Portland: cloudy skies threatening rain, temperatures in the mid-60s, and thousands of naked bicyclists gathered near the city's waterfront for a clothing-free night ride. The Portland version of the World Naked Bike Ride was about to begin. "It is the most liberating, natural feeling possible," said Brooklyn Jay, who came all the way from Phoenix for the ride. World Naked Bike Ride is a globally observed event among hard-core bikers designed, at least ostensibly, to promote the use of the bicycle for transportation. But Portland cyclists have been especially adamant about making it another of the Pacific Northwest city's quirky traditions. "This is just a way of drawing attention to the need to be more green and replace fossil fuels with natural power," said Ken Johnson, who was completely nude and body-painted grey.

What about saving my eye sight?....
This silly rides do nothing for the environment. It is just an opportunity for exhibitionists to say “look at me”.
What happens when they try to get into a resturant that has a policy posted ‘’No shoes,No shirt, No service’’
It’s all about the environment?.....
stupid loons!
Ugh. How gross. A bunch of stinky, sweaty, naked, unemployed hippies with Starbucks breath. This is what hell is.
Portland is off the charts whack left....
They follow the sign to the letter and put on shoes and a shirt.
If anyone gets raped does the City of Portland get sued?
The loons just did the same thing in Seattle the other day.
Why can’t there ever be any attractive wacko nudists?
I have never been to Portland. I’m kinda proud of that. I have been to Austin tho’, is there much difference other than the climate?
Just how does being publicly nude help the environment? It doesn’t. This is really about a small, vocal and disturbed segment of society who likes to be naked in public, period. They use any “cause” as an excuse.
Of course. Why do you think they called it Port-land?
They do this in Vermont (now there’s a shock), as well. Remember when the freaks were relegated to the circus?
We arrest people for exposing themselves to children.
I guess the public indecency laws only apply to us “little people”.
If I sunbathe naked in my back yard, and a neighbor looks over the fence, I can be fined and arrested, but if I go for a bike ride, on public roads, the same law that got me arrested is somehow lifted.
I can think of several safety concerns with riding a bicycle naked but I’ll leave it to your imagination. I haven’t ever tried this but I expect I’d want a really wide seat instead of the standard thin 10 speed seat.
