Governor Rick Perry has signed "The Baker's Bill", leading Texas bakers in hope for another source of income, all while staying in their home.
KLTV's Annette Falconer talks with one east Texas baker, who can't wait to start her baking business.
It's the day that can't come too soon for baker, Stephanie Frazier.
"September first you'll hear me calling around saying, hey, would you like a cookie?", says Frazier.
Governor Perry signed the "Bakers Bill", allowing bakers like Fazier to sell their non-perishable goodies.
"If you had a kitchen under the same roof where people slept, you were not allowed to sell your food but now this removes this restriction for us," says Frazier.
The bill comes with a couple restrictions, like the maximum that they can make and where they sell their treats, but most of it is for the consumer's safety.
Frazier says, "They can call the health department and say, I just wanted to check, to see if you have any complaints about mama steph and they could tell you if there were anything."
'Mamasteph' says this bill allows her to do what she loves, and gives her a chance to make a little extra money.
"Now that will help supplement for people who just want to try something fun and new and maybe put a little extra money in your pocket which is always a nice thing," says Frazier.

Yes. We’ve become so beaten down that these stupid rules have become a way of life, even as they kill initiate and stop people earning some extra money (better to go on bended knee to the local community organizer). Government has to have it’s hooks in you so they can get their pound of flesh from your labor while telling you how to live.
It’s the same mentality that requires licensing of florists or decorators... The existing businesses use the government to prevent competition from arising.

They call it continuing education, I call it a barrier to prevent competition.
There was a recent thing in the FL news about licensed interior designers fighting a law that would let anyone offer their services as decorators. It sounded like a real fight was going down in the legislature on that.

There was a “tamale/burrito lady” on nearly every construction jobsite I ever worked on in TX, selling breakfast burritos out of an insulated chest in the trunk of her car. This law just proves that those who write the laws are rarely in touch with reality.

Haha - slap at Houston! I think they have a city ordinance that prohibits baking at home and even handing out food to the homeless - Thanks Governor Perry!
Mine worked for their money and were not so fast to give McD their hard earned money and were grining about Mom and Dad’s free meals.
Mine both work as well - we’re trying to get them into the budget book habit, but it’s so easy (and certainly more “fun”) to hand over money and get food - and we’re competing for hearts and minds against all those kids whose parents DO just say, “Here’s ten bucks, go get some dinner”. The younger one’s better at keeping to her spending categories than the older one.
Tell me please, when is it Perry's work (pander) and when is it the legislature's work (pander)?

Its Rick pandering when he signs into law something he ordinarilly wont do unless its an election year. Whatever makes Perry look good, Perry does.
Really? Then why all the talk about "Perry doesn't do squat," that it's the TX legislature that makes the laws that Perry signs? Hmmmmmm. You pick and choose what suits your template.
