Morris Pollard, the father of Jonathan Pollard, has died at age 95. HIs family has sent an urgent plea to President Obama, asking him to show mercy and allow Jonathan Pollard compassionate leave to attend his father's funeral. Jonathan Pollard was convicted for passing classified information to a foreign country and has been incarcerated for 26 years Pollard's father had been hospitalized for the last several months. During this period, activists on Pollard's behalf and various well-known Israelis, attempted to no avail to obtain permission for Jonathan to visit his father on a 24 hour leave.
The refusal prompted MK Aryeh Eldad to send a message of condolence to Jonathan, saying: "The people of Israel will not forget President Obama's cruelty in ignoring all the requests to free you. A president who lacks the basic human feeling that would allow a son's visit to his dying father should not wonder that the Jewish people will make every effort to prevent his re-election."
A petition signed by a 75 israeli MK's, asking Obama to allow Pollard to visit his dying father was to have been handed to Vice President Joe Biden shortly. It came too late.
MK Nachman Shai (Kadima), initiator of the petition, said that its signers represented a broad spectrum of parties and opinions, who united for this humanitarian purpose. "I hope that we will succeed in opening President Obama's heart," he had said.
Recent efforts on the part of various persons to convince President Shimon Peres, considered by Deptury Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon the natural choice to turn to Obama on this issue, had been unsuccessful.

Those that whine about the unfairness of Pollard's sentence should get over it and deal with it ...
He's gonna get out in 2015 after serving about 30 years - which is fair ...
There's that New York sense of humor I thought I recognized. Well done - a mocking denial that you had mocked, proving my point to those that are paying close attention. Claiming that you're ambivalent isn't really a defense of your apologetics. There's no need to be wishy-washy when a little reading around this subject would clarify things for you - many people have posted information that could have helped you make up your mind. If you want to know for sure, the information is there - start with Admiral Shapiro's statements (either the one I quoted above, or one about hiring Pollard in the first place) and work backward and forward from there. If you're actually looking for answers, I hope you find them.
We all have a lot to learn, clearly.
1. As to Pope Pius,we are a secular nation. Popes. Imams or Rabbis do not have any special credibility when it comes to a jury determining whether someone should be put to death. As a Catholic, I do resent when Popes think they can substitute their judgement for a jury or legislature.
2. If someone were caught selling nuke secrets to our “ally” in the terror war, Pakistan, whom we supply with 3 billion a year in aid, they need to be treated harshly.
3. The Rosenbergs may have started their little cabal party when the Soviet was not viewed as a threat but they were supplying secrets as late as 1948 when the Soviets were indeed a threat although nominally we did not call them an enemy. They had already taken over Eastern Europe and just as with our “ally” Pakistan, I would expect them to be dealt with more harshly than if they spied for a real ally like Britain. Also, there is no evidence that they would have stopped spying even if we formally entered the cold war which was in its incipient stages.
Could you please re-phrase what you wrote? I’m not sure if you’re asking a question or just making a statement, and though I saw your correction following this post, I’m not sure the connection you’re making to the Pollard case. Please also let me know if you actually want a response from me.
You are being obtuse and as stupid as FDR in your quacking about the USSR being our allies and therefore giving them the secret to nukes was not worthy of execution.
“A crime that wasn’t done isn’t a crime.”
Wrong! Look up conspiracy and attempted crimes.
Not really, your response would certainly prove most unsatisfactory in any case old chum.
I thought you might have felt that way. Maybe, when you recover from other people on this thread’s responses to you, you can reconsider.
Recovery? Quite the word, isn’t it?
None needed for myself, old sport.
There, there, brave lad. Keep your chin up.
Very well stated!
I’m happy to see the bigoted traitor supporting troll has been zotted. One of them anyway. Sometimes it seems that no matter how many trolls get zotted, there’s always another one ready to step up to the plate and continue the mission.
Look. Life is too short for this. You think I mocked you. Show me what I said. Maybe I did. Who cares? Maybe anyone who you think mocked you should be zotted. Run along. There. Now I mocked you. Tell the moderators.
Re Pollard. I’m no longer ambivalent. Keep him locked up. Reading up on it might be a good idea, but as I said, life is too short. It’s not up to me or you. We’re just football fans trying to decide which team to cheer. Since life is so short, go get one. Mocked you again. Moderators! Eleutheria’s making fun of me! ‘bye.
You make a good clown, I have to concede that.
I didn’t think you mocked me when I posted to the moderator requesting a decision be made about you and the now-banned other poster. Please, though you say nothing is really this important or worth the time (though that has tended to coincide with things others say that you disagree with), read it again dispassionately, because this is about more than just you or me, and it is actually important if you care about America, even if you’ve left. It is also important to Israel, as I see it, but I don’t have your familiarity with it or qualifications to speak to that. We have had no interaction before this that I can remember. I’m more than fine with us having no interaction after this. Enjoy the life you’re making for yourself. I know I’ll do likewise.
Who got zotted - Harmonium?
Yes, that’s right.
“read it again...”
I’ve already made up my mind, no thanks to you, now that his presence in the news has become unavoidable. He deserves to stay in jail. There. Now I’ll mock you again. Nyaaa nyaa nyaa nyaa nyaa nyaaa.
It wasn’t a recommendation about finally making up your mind about Pollard - that’s really your business and you’re right about my not being the policeman of orthodoxy here; it was about not taking this as personally as you seem to have, and giving you the opportunity again now to think about the effect some of what you’ve said, mostly on the other thread, has had on people here who care about this country, America, almost all of whom I’d expect at least hope for the best for Israel.
I’ve been recommended for zotting before at the time of the Madison, Wisconsin leftist-fest, but got to explain myself. I expected if you were required to (and you’ve been here over ten times as long as I have), you would. I listed my concerns openly; most of them were specific to the other poster and addressed as such, but also referred to your earlier Pollard thread, where you posted more. The decision to ban wasn’t mine.
