Representative Ron Paul easily won a Republican Leadership Conference straw poll of the party's 2012 presidential contenders on Saturday, with former U.S. envoy to China Jon Huntsman finishing second.

Paul supporters are always enthusiastic. Unfortunately, he needs a majority.
This is an inanely silly post. No, Ron Paul is NOT the candidate who most wants to follow the Constitution. But, before we discuss this further, you call people “stupid” on here who oppose Ron Paul...which makes me automatically think that you are a Paulbot. You want people to have some respect, then tell that to the RP trolls who go to other websites pimping their candidate. Respect works both ways, and in most situations, RP people are the single most vitriolic, hate-filled people around.
Now to your assertion that he supports the Constitution. His support of earmarks is abhorrent and his reasoning for it amounts to political prostitution. “Oh, I will vote for earmarks, KNOWING that a bad bill will pass, so that I can then vote against it to make me look like I am against spending. You mention the earmark hypocrisy, but what about his support of the T. Boone Pickens bill? Where is this mandated in the Constitution? RP always talks about auditing the FED, but he doesn’t have the authority to do this under the Constitution...Cain knows this, why doesn’t Ron Paul? He would be forced to take an oath if elected President to defend and protect our nation, yet he oppose putting agents on the southern border, he refuses to acknowledge that terrorism threatens our nation and he blames American for 9/11 and such...these greatly UNDERMINE our national security. I could continue this EXTREMELY easy task of proving you wrong, but instead, let me ask you to do me a favor...instead of spouting the same Paultardisms as everyone else, why not actually look at how he has voted. Trust me, you might learn something...and I guarantee you, it won’t be pretty.
A lot of Freepers, even at this early stage, are making it clear that they won’t be supporting Romney if he was to win the nomination. I’m not one of those, but it’s fairly common.
You made it seem that he singled out McKinney for praise, btw, when he basically said “vote 3rd party”.
I personally think the conservatives should stay on board 100%, and rip the RINOs to shreds, take their GOP jobs, get them off the TV while calling themselves Conservatives. Just take over the GOP.
Ha. That is pretty funny. Reagan were he alive, would disown a turd like Ron Paul in a second if Paul had comported himself as he has since Reagan left the public eye..
Awfully sensitive tonight, and you commence to calling people you don’t know “RINO”. Is that the best you can do? Criticism getting to you?
It would get to me if I were allied with Code Pink and 9/11 Truthers.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
You are a pro gays in the military liberal.
Just like Ron Paul.
I noticed that early on he resorts to to the Paulite equivalent of “you’re a poo poo head” by calling posters liberals and RINO’s.
Coming from someone who allies themselves with Code Pinkos and 9/11 Truthers, I find that quite amusing.
man THAT would be tuff!
Moot point anyway—come February we in SC are going to pick Sarah Palin—which means she wins the GOP nomination and then pump stomps Obama in November.
As for RP and MR—I would vote for either over Obama but I thank God in heaven that will never happen.
Nothing but personal attacks from a Ron Paul supporter.
Mods it's time.
They’re organized as well, not just enthusiastic. The campaign has been harnessing their energy in spots. Iowa looks promising.
But, yes, you’re right. The time graphic, the bracket poll,
is somewhat accurate. Paul would need to be “the” tea party candidate, against “the” establishment candidate. So, from a practical standpoint, Paul has to beat Bachmann and Cain. Which is doable. Not saying that it’s guaranteed, but it’s certainly doable. After all the other tea party candidates are out, I’d expect the tea party to rally around Ron Paul.
After all, Rand Paul is the poster boy of tea party 2010.
They might prefer Rand’s foreign policies to Ron’s, but they recognize that Ron is closer to Rand than Mitt Romney is. The tea party will be working hard for Ron Paul to prevent Romney from getting the nomination.
Then, with tea party support, 18-29 support, he beats Romney (or whoever the establishment candidate is).
In the General, these elections are generally referendums on the economy. If the economy really sucks, the incumbent loses. Which means Paul beats Obama.
This analysis is based on Palin not running. Palin romping is the most likely scenario. Would like to see some evidence that would actually happen though.
He did that to Allegra too.
Anyone that doesn’t support Paul he says is pro Obama.
He needs to stay on the Ron Paul Forums.
Allegra, huh? Allegra is a RINO and a liberal?
Who knew.
We should definitely call the Admin Mods on her, then...can’t have HER kind around here polluting the air.
We’ll tell em that truthfreedom tipped us off. Sad, after all this time on FR, we find out Allegra isn’t who we thought she was.
Paul and his supporters feel Reagan was a RINO.
They inhabit a warped reality that Salvador Dali would envy.
Many of them just keep telling themselves things like: “Rosie O’Donnell was right when she said I do believe that its the first time in history that fire has ever melted steel...”
Now that is rarified company to keep!
Yes, he is. He also understands what is most important to the survival of this country.
But, before we discuss this further, you call people stupid on here who oppose Ron Paul...
No, I don't. I call people who appear ignorant of the reality of Paul's integrity and trash him beyond reason stupid. I don't care who opposes him. Many here disagree who to oppose and who to support. But every time someone reports something that even remotely puts a positive light on Paul, all the "he's a kook and you're a paulbot" freaks come out of the woodwork.
which makes me automatically think that you are a Paulbot.
Of course you do. Kneejerk reactions are always easier than reason. I have, outside of Free Republic, never supported Paul in any fashion. I only do so here when I get tired of all the stupid people saying all the stupid kneejerk things about him that they tend to.
You want people to have some respect
It is my experience that Ron Paul deserves respect. I am simply trying to defend the honor of what I consider to be an honorable man. And an intelligent man. And a man who loves this country and the constitution.
What is accomplished by tearing him down on this site all the time? You don't think he can win? Then what's the problem? People who I don't believe can win, I ignore. I remember when you couldn't say something good about Palin that you weren't attacked. But never for what she stood for.
You think trashing his good name on Free Republic is going to have any effect on what happens in the next election? It's not. It's not going to make any difference as to how well he does in his bid for president.
I think you don't get it on so many levels that I will stop here. By the way, if you don't mind my asking, who do you support in the upcoming election?
Paul has a lot of good ideas. Its his wacky foreign policy that makes him unelectable to many conservatives (including myself). I like him a lot otherwise.
Paul’s foreign policy is Jimmy Carter level stupid. We may never clean up his mess.
How exactly is Ron Paul “allied” with Code Pink?
You are insulting Ron Paul by calling him a turd btw. I didn’t realize that you can complain about someone being nasty while being nasty yourself? I thought it was either “be nasty” or “complain about being nasty”.
Why don’t you just admit that Ron Paul’s views are very very similar to traditional conservative views, and you don’t like it very much.
There is a reason why George Bush and Ronald Reagan were the last 2 in 1980. And a reason why Bush stayed in the race until May even though he only won 5 states. The Bushes aren’t conservative. And the Bushes haven’t liked Ron Paul for years, going back to the 70’s.
Exactly. I realized he has a lot supporters are among the 'Blame America First' crowd. No thanks. Paul would be a disaster of Obamiac proportions. It is unfortunate though because I also think he is also one of the few candidates who is serious about cutting spending.
