United States to replace Pakistan's P3C Orions destroyed by terrorists: Report

ISLAMABAD: The United States will supply two P3C Orion maritime surveillance planes to Pakistan to replace the aircraft that were destroyed in a terrorist strike on Karachi naval airbase last month, a media report said on Friday.

Quoting diplomatic sources Dawn News said, "The US has decided to supply two P3C Orion aircraft to Pakistan to replace the aircraft that were destroyed in the PNS Mehran attack on May 22nd."

"The US will also be supplying F-16 aircraft and its spare parts," it said.

Moreover, it is also expected that the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen will soon be visiting Pakistan.

The destruction of the two four-engine all-weather P3C Orion aircraft had temporarily affected Pakistan Navy's counter-terrorism and surface and underwater reconnaissance operations, it added.

The aircraft is designed for surface and underwater reconnaissance and anti-submarine and anti-surface vessel operations.

It is rated as the fastest turbo-prop long-range maritime patrol (LRMP) platform used worldwide and is also called the 'airborne destroyer'.

Heavily-armed Taliban gunmen had stormed Mehran airbase in Pakistan's port city of Karachi, destroying two US-made surveillance aircraft and killing at least five security personnel.

Relationship with Pakistan is not an easy one: US

PTI Jun 17, 2011, 12.11am IST

WASHINGTON: America's relationship with Pakistan is complex and not an easy one, the Obama administration said on Thursday.

"I think it's not a secret that our relationship with Pakistan is complex, that's it's not easy, that we have our challenges," the new State Department spokesman Victoria Toria Nuland told reporters at her first news conference.

"But as we've said many times from this podium, as the (US) President has said, as the Secretary (of State) has said, the US has a profound national interest in working with Pakistan on terrorism, on extremism, on promoting democracy and stability and prosperity, not only in Pakistan but throughout the region," she said.

"So it's important that we keep at it, and we're planning to keep at it," Nuland said, but she refused to entertain questions related to the Pakistan Army Chief, General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani.

"With regard to General Kayani and his internal situation, I would just send you to the Pakistanis on that one," she said.

Way to go keep aiding the people who did hide bin laden and then arrested the guys who helped to get him.
No wonder we are royally f*cked.
But then again since our governments invites those people anyway to live next door to us why even waste tax money to kill em in foreign lands?

Let the US bend over one more time for Pakistan. More US dollars down the tubes of an out of control Muslim state. But hey, isn’t this what Obama wants? Egypt is essentially lost to the Muslim Brotherhood thanks to our failure to support Mubarek. Yemen is going down the tubes. A Libyan dictator will be replaced by Muslim fanatics whom we are supporting. At the same time, Obama’s good friend in Syria is receiving his support.

Don´t forget “our” eternal ally saudi arabia.
Where most of the terrorist who have been responsible for 9/11 (including bin laden) have came from.

I summon my blue-eyed slaves anytime it pleases me. I command the Americans to send me their bravest soldiers to die for me. Anytime I clap my hands a stupid genie called the American ambassador appears to do my bidding. When the Americans die in my service their bodies are frozen in metal boxes by the US Embassy and American airplanes carry them away, as if they never existed. Truly, America is my favorite slave.”
King Fahd Bin Abdul-Aziz, Jeddeh 1993

Looks like not much has changed in saudi arabia since then but as said this are our allies!

Now Pakistan had to destroy all old planes, and let US replace them with NEW. Pakistan is holding US nuts. They know when to twist them.

My neighbor used to say this about his ex-wife.

I could imagine hostilities. We’d be blowing those “Bears” out of the sky like cord wood.

They aren’t for anti-terrorism operations (if they were, they’d spend most of their time over the ISI instead of over the ocean.) They are used for anti-sub operations against the Indian navy.

They aren't exactly new. The US is throwing them away so that they can replace them with 737s with diminished capabilities but nice ladies rooms for the crew.

Haven’t the Pakis stopped the resupply of our drone units?

And now this?! I’m not into the beheading thing what-so-ever but this might be time for me to reconsider...

I see I'm needing to explain it to you.

Statement in article:

[P3C Orion] is rated as the fastest turbo-prop long-range maritime patrol (LRMP) platform
The Tupelov Tu-142 LRMP is a good 100mph faster and has about 3000 miles more range than the P3C Orion.

Any race between them is a forgone conclusion.

“I see I’m needing to explain it to you.”

Not really. I merely stated if there were hostilities, those lumbering “Bears” would be falling out of the sky like cord wood. I know the Orions wouldn’t be the planes shooting them down and didn’t infer anything about a race between them.
