Albert Mohler is President of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, was a key member of the Conservative Resurgence that took the Southern Baptist Convention back from Liberalism, and is considered the leading Baptist intellectual. It's shocking that he'd say something like this.

In a more enlightened age, he would be burned at the stake. I think this is the same gang of misfits who just supported amnesty for illegals.
Looks like Harold Camping may be right about only one thing - the era of organized Christian Churches is over.

reading the whole article, he sounds very fair and very reasonable....
he thinks that churches should be open to gays and lesbians, period....he doesn't condone it, he calls it a sin....but its a difficult sin and how would God fearing people help those in sin except to open up the church to them.....afterall, God is the answer to our questions, isn't HE?

I am expecting that Albert Mohler with these latest statements of Apostasy will very quickly lose any prominence he had in the Southern Baptist Convention.
The Baptists, in general, don't mess around on the issues of Abortion or Homosexuality.
To: balch3
The Southern Baptists are high on my list of which church to be Baptised in, I hope they are a good one.

I'd like to read what Mohler actually said, verbatim, before commenting. There can be a lot of misinterpretations even from well-meaning folks (chinese whispers!), so imho we should read what he actually said, not what someone interprets or said he said.
I strongly doubt the SBC would go this way.

There’s a vide of his speech somewhere, but I don’t have a URL.

And how do you think that should be implemented in practice?
At various points in my life I've spent time in Baptist Churches in different regions of the US.
I've never once experienced a situation where any sinner has been made to feel unwelcome.
Oh, the Preachers did preach against Sin in it's many forms, they did not compromise on the matter of Homosexuality being a sin and a choice, but they never posted someone at the door and said do not come in because you are Homosexual.
And immediately after stating that Homosexuality is a Sin, or any other sin, they always pointed the Sinners to Christ.
So once again, if it were you, how should the Baptist church be more inclusive of Homosexuals?
To: ZULU
imho, let’s wait to read his actual words before condemning the man.

Churches should be open to those who repent, and start living their lives according to the scriptures.
Using the term “homophobia” is exactly the wrong word.

Kick him out just for using the word “homophobia”. That in and of itself is a blatant surrender.

Albert Mohler would probably be better served picking up a copy of the Bible and yelling his message at it.
To: Cronos
I strongly doubt the SBC would go this way.The SBC might not, but I highly expect Mohler will continue down this path; every once and again he'll come out with a statement that's increasingly questionable, misguided, and just plain erroneous. It seems he want to go down the path of appeasing the world, not realizing that wholesale rejection of Christ is the only appeasement the world will accept.

No, Catholic, but not orthodoxy, I read about them am and are sometimes moved, but the intimacy of a more raw connection with God is appealing.

The SBC supports illegal immigration so it’s not surprising to me that they support gay rights.
