Video and Notes of Governor Rick Perry at Red State Conference in 2010
FReepers,
In doing my homework on Rick Perry I found this video. Its about 30 minutes long. I watched and took notes. If you have time to watch it you will hear it complete and in context, delivered in his style and with his inflection.
My notes while watching video of speech:
Opening minutes of video is folksy fun and warm up schtick. At 4 minutes in, Rick Perry takes a nice shot at the legacy media then goes into his thoughts about the Constitution, the 10th Amendment and the struggle between the Right and the Left -- how the country is ready fixin to to swing back.
He addresses his talk to the conservative blogosphere:
James Madison and Thomas Jefferson would be very comfortable in this room today.
Thanks those who went to the sport shooting range a day earlier.
Reads the 10th Amendment What a beautiful succinct, simple statement words penned for a time such as this (nice list of rights being taken away and by whom).
Republicans lost because you couldnt tell the difference between a Republican and a Democrat (expands)
Growing mood in the country passion across the state and when I look at Glenn Becks event in Washington D.C. and other events, it warms the cockles of my heart
Texas has led but its been a hell of a struggle against Washington D.C. they must trust the people, they dont trust the people.
Governing isnt that hard
First Dont spend all the money!
TX legislature meets 140 days every OTHER year!
TARP Stimulus great concern in Texas, country, world --- small businesses dont know what shoe will fall next what regulations costs job loss. Health care bill cost loss of access to health care ..
Second: Fair and predictable tax and regulatory policy ..
Third: Legal system that does not allow for over suing. Sweeping tort reform 2003 in TX has paid HUGE dividends. Went from Jack-pot Justice (legal hell hole) to 60% more doctors practicing in Texas from 7 years ago (expands more on this) about access to health care.
Last step: Loser Pays tells them, you better have a case. If frivolous fishing for settlement theyll foot the bill! (since this speech, Perry signed it into law)
Haley Barbour told him, If "Loser Pays" passes you can put turnstiles on the TX border and charge people to come into your state!
THATS IT! Put those 4 principles into place and tell government to get the hell out of the way.
You also need to work with principled people.
Jan 2003 was first time there was Republican control of Texas and put Texas on the path that has led to the model it is today -- how you manage government to free people from legislation, litigation and regulation. Business are looking to TX (discusses Caterpillars move to TX. Discusses CA losing auto business to TX).
Because were a mobile society people can up and move and pick and choose where they want to live and work.
Why 10th Amendment so important to the people. If government continues to take our freedoms by delegating from D.C. [this is how youre going to get health care, educate your children, live your life] -- then we have lost our republic and we have lost our freedom. This is worth fighting for, this is worth standing for This is where the rubber meets the road
If people can risk their capital and get a return on their investment they can pay for good teachers, can pay for officers to be on the roads to protect you. You cannot have transportation infrastructure if you do not have the environment for entrepreneurs.
We are locked in a huge struggle against centralized government -- rationed opportunity, limited freedom...
Bloggers -- the firebrand to rally the people that I dare to speak to today about those who have grown drunk on power in D.C., you must remind your fellow Americans that our system gives them more power than any citizenry in the world
Closes quoting "the Patron Saint of Conservatism." Ronald Reagan said: Freedom is never more than one generation removed from extinction. We dont pass it on to our children in our blood stream. It must be fought for, protected and handed on to them to do the same. We will not be the generation that let freedom slip through our fingers. Instead let us be remembered as the generation that stood up for what is good about this country, put it back on the path established by our founding fathers ..
....that is a legacy we can all embrace. So lets restore basic Constitutional values that set this Republic apart, spread the gospel of our conservative principles .

I apologize for not being nicer about someone trying to deflect an argument about corruption into an argument about vaccinations. I’ll send flowers next time.
Yeah, but who's going to do that? I fear that those of us who believe in pesky things like the 'rule of law' wouldn't be able to raise enough money to pay off Perry to enforce it. There would always be someone else who could pay him more.
Skip the flowers, send money. Nice attempt to justify your actions, but FAIL.
LBJ and then the two Bush boys?
Please, no more presidents from Texas....Ever!
Justify my actions? There’s no need. Rick Perry’s record is his record. Some people may not want to accept it, but that is hardly my problem.
I don’t like him. Imho, he’s a RINO.
Straight Truth Bump.
Thank you.

I disagree. We will win no matter what, IMHO. Obama is unelectable.
Our responsibility is to get the best candidate possible. If we punt with someone like Romney, he will still win, but I'm not sure if we could tell the difference from Obama. A good candidate now, can make years of difference in our pain and hundreds of billions saved versus a RINO.
The only way Obama can win is a run by Trump as a 3rd party. He might draw %5 of the votes from the repub. When 1% often makes the difference, Obama would almost be a shoe in. America would be over.
I agree with you. If we ‘settle’ for a candidate in this election, all we’ll succeed in doing is MAYBE kicking the can down the road another few years. If we want to really put this nation on a path to restoration, we MUST choose a candidate who we can honestly say has the guts to make big changes.
chuckles posted - “”This is what keeps me coming back to Palin. She has had every statement and email scrutinized and there is no dirt. She has to be the cleanest pol on the planet. If she entered the race, I would have to even overlook Bachmann or Cain. By the time she got to the primary vote, we would even know when her period was. Most of the pols we have to choose from, we are just guessing at their character. “”
Lol. You sound like me talking to the DH. Like most FReepers, we saw Sarah coming lightyears before the rest of the country, but I worry about the voters, (and there are WAY too many of them), who get their news from SNL, Jon Stewart or the Colbert Report. That she will be unable to sway them : /
We shall see.
May God give us strength.

You know, I never saw you on these threads.
How come?

Thank you for adding your Perry list to the thread.
Sarah is a better person than I. However, Perry is still a RINO. Imho.
I don’t know? Maybe because you weren’t pushing a corrupt candidate in them? Just a wild guess. I only bothered to click the first couple though.
You may want to turn this around and make it about you somehow, but this isn’t about you. This is about Rick Perry’s record of dismal corruption.
If you want to post fawning Rick Perry threads, you should be prepared to defend his record. Deflecting from his record to make this about me or you or anything else just won’t fly.
I’ll ask again: Do you condone corruption?
Our anti-Perry FReepers sound a lot like Kay Bailey Hutichson trying to convince Sarah Palin to break froom Rick Perry, in her failed attempt to move from her Senate seat to the Texas Governor’s mansion.
CYPRESS, Texas - On Super Bowl Sunday, Rick Perry handed the ball to star runner Sarah Palin, who joined the governor’s team in bashing big-spending Washington.
She urged the crowd to stick with Perry as someone whose conservative policies are succeeding, but she also received a huge cheer from the crowd of about 8,000 when she said she’d heard some mention of Texas seceding.
With early voting in the March 2 primary beginning in just over a week, Perry called on Palin to help rally support in his race against Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Debra Medina.
In a race in which the two leaders are well-known politicians, having been in office for decades, endorsements from former President George H.W. Bush , as Hutchison received, or the last GOP vice presidential nominee, as Perry won, are unlikely to make a big difference to voters. But the appearance raised spirits and attention in the final quarter of a long battle.
In the speeches Sunday, all the long bombs were aimed at Washington, and by extension, the senior senator from Texas.
“Washington is broken. But your state under Governor Perry’s leadership is setting an example that really a whole lot of other people now want to start following. And, as they say, if it ain’t broke, why fix it?” Palin said.
The Hutchison campaign countered that when Palin ran for governor in Alaska, it was with the promise to throw out an old guard and “clean up the favor factory,” as she said in her book Going Rogue.
Perry’s initiatives on the Trans-Texas Corridor and for a vaccine for girls to prevent some forms of cervical cancer were colored by the involvement of favored lobbyists, Hutchison spokesman Joe Pounder said.
“We welcome Sarah Palin to Texas and hope she conveys her message to Rick Perry that cronyism doesn’t work,” Pounder said.
[snip]
Palin lauded the state’s ability to attract businesses and Perry’s decisions to turn away federal offers for hundreds of millions in education and unemployment funding. Those programs would have required Texas to meet certain federal criteria that he said would rob Texas of setting its own path.
“When Washington came calling with money for expensive programs that Texas couldn’t afford, he told them, ‘Thanks, but no thanks. We’re doing just fine without you,’ “ she said.
Palin also made reference to the dust-up Perry caused this summer at a Tea Party rally, when he said he could understand why some Texans might want to secede from the union.
“I think they got that wrong. Texas isn’t seceding. They’re succeeding,” Palin said.....
She endorsed McCain too. Should we support him for 2012 as well?
Does Sarah Palin condone corruption?
According to you, she must.
I’m not fawning over Rick Perry, I’m highlighting him as a candidate that I’d like to see get into the primary battle.
I want to see the GOP candidates go toe to toe.
We need to see what they have, what they’ll take to Obama; how they’ll meet the MSM on the battle field.
But you want to divide and conquer.
Again, I ask you, why haven’t you been on the Palin thread’s (and that’s not all of them) that I’ve been posting in highlighting her? Or are you just an attack dog?
Im not fawning over Rick Perry, Im highlighting him as a candidate that Id like to see get into the primary battle.
Why? Do you feel that there are not enough dishonest brokers in the field? Or did someone just tell you that 'he can win'. Well, even if he did win, what good would it do this country to have a man who is for sale at the helm?
I want to see the GOP candidates go toe to toe.
Well, I'm showing you the opposition that Perry will be facing on our side.
We need to see what they have, what theyll take to Obama; how theyll meet the MSM on the battle field.
We've seen what Rick Perry has. He has a record of corruption, as has been detailed by more than one poster in this thread. How he 'takes it' to anyone is irrelevant if his allegiance can be purchased by the highest bidder.
But you want to divide and conquer.
On the contrary, I'd rather see us all stop promoting dishonest candidates because they 'take it to' someone and start promoting honest candidates who can do the same.
Again, I ask you, why havent you been on the Palin threads (and thats not all of them) that Ive been posting in highlighting her? Or are you just an attack dog?
I've said my piece on Sarah Palin numerous times. Just because it hasn't been to you or on your threads, doesn't mean I've been silent on the matter. Remember, as I've said repeatedly, this is NOT about you. However, again, you are trying to make this about everything other than what it is: this is about Rick Perry's dismal record of corruption.
I answered your questions. You've done nothing but deflect mine.
I really don’t have a strong feeling one way or the other as to whether Perry or Palin for that matter will actually get into the fray. But should either or both get in it will change the dynamics substantially. Once they officially hit the national scene with a group of media pundits following them they will be exposed, examined, sliced/diced like they’ve not seen before. In a way I look forward to that because it’s time we put them under the microscope and get all the good/bad out on the table. Let the best person win.
