Video and Notes of Governor Rick Perry at Red State Conference in 2010
FReepers,
In doing my homework on Rick Perry I found this video. Its about 30 minutes long. I watched and took notes. If you have time to watch it you will hear it complete and in context, delivered in his style and with his inflection.
My notes while watching video of speech:
Opening minutes of video is folksy fun and warm up schtick. At 4 minutes in, Rick Perry takes a nice shot at the legacy media then goes into his thoughts about the Constitution, the 10th Amendment and the struggle between the Right and the Left -- how the country is ready fixin to to swing back.
He addresses his talk to the conservative blogosphere:
James Madison and Thomas Jefferson would be very comfortable in this room today.
Thanks those who went to the sport shooting range a day earlier.
Reads the 10th Amendment What a beautiful succinct, simple statement words penned for a time such as this (nice list of rights being taken away and by whom).
Republicans lost because you couldnt tell the difference between a Republican and a Democrat (expands)
Growing mood in the country passion across the state and when I look at Glenn Becks event in Washington D.C. and other events, it warms the cockles of my heart
Texas has led but its been a hell of a struggle against Washington D.C. they must trust the people, they dont trust the people.
Governing isnt that hard
First Dont spend all the money!
TX legislature meets 140 days every OTHER year!
TARP Stimulus great concern in Texas, country, world --- small businesses dont know what shoe will fall next what regulations costs job loss. Health care bill cost loss of access to health care ..
Second: Fair and predictable tax and regulatory policy ..
Third: Legal system that does not allow for over suing. Sweeping tort reform 2003 in TX has paid HUGE dividends. Went from Jack-pot Justice (legal hell hole) to 60% more doctors practicing in Texas from 7 years ago (expands more on this) about access to health care.
Last step: Loser Pays tells them, you better have a case. If frivolous fishing for settlement theyll foot the bill! (since this speech, Perry signed it into law)
Haley Barbour told him, If "Loser Pays" passes you can put turnstiles on the TX border and charge people to come into your state!
THATS IT! Put those 4 principles into place and tell government to get the hell out of the way.
You also need to work with principled people.
Jan 2003 was first time there was Republican control of Texas and put Texas on the path that has led to the model it is today -- how you manage government to free people from legislation, litigation and regulation. Business are looking to TX (discusses Caterpillars move to TX. Discusses CA losing auto business to TX).
Because were a mobile society people can up and move and pick and choose where they want to live and work.
Why 10th Amendment so important to the people. If government continues to take our freedoms by delegating from D.C. [this is how youre going to get health care, educate your children, live your life] -- then we have lost our republic and we have lost our freedom. This is worth fighting for, this is worth standing for This is where the rubber meets the road
If people can risk their capital and get a return on their investment they can pay for good teachers, can pay for officers to be on the roads to protect you. You cannot have transportation infrastructure if you do not have the environment for entrepreneurs.
We are locked in a huge struggle against centralized government -- rationed opportunity, limited freedom...
Bloggers -- the firebrand to rally the people that I dare to speak to today about those who have grown drunk on power in D.C., you must remind your fellow Americans that our system gives them more power than any citizenry in the world
Closes quoting "the Patron Saint of Conservatism." Ronald Reagan said: Freedom is never more than one generation removed from extinction. We dont pass it on to our children in our blood stream. It must be fought for, protected and handed on to them to do the same. We will not be the generation that let freedom slip through our fingers. Instead let us be remembered as the generation that stood up for what is good about this country, put it back on the path established by our founding fathers ..
....that is a legacy we can all embrace. So lets restore basic Constitutional values that set this Republic apart, spread the gospel of our conservative principles .

That kills the deal for me as well, but immigration is the most well known issue with this guy. We don’t need another open borders President.

[excerpt]”...Perry was greeted warmly by the crowd, and left to a standing ovation.
“Every life is precious,” Perry said, as his remarks were repeated by a translator in Spanish. He said the direction of stem cell research under the Obama administration was “turning the remains of unborn children into nothing more than raw material.”
A 1996 law prohibits the use of taxpayer dollars in work that harms an embryo, so private money has been used to cull batches of the cells. Those batches can reproduce in lab dishes indefinitely, and the Obama administration issued rules permitting taxpayer dollars to be used in work on them through the National Institutes of Health.
The administration’s rules expanded the number of stem cell lines created with private money that federally funded scientists could research, up from the 21 that President George W. Bush had allowed to 91 and counting. To qualify, parents who donate the original embryo must be told of other options, such as donating to an infertile woman.
The Obama administration is ignoring “the overriding responsibility of every government that is to protect citizens at every stage of their lives, especially those who cannot protect themselves,” Perry said.
Perry also faulted Obama for reversing the so-called “Mexico City policy” that banned giving federal money to international groups that perform abortions or provide information about abortions. Obama struck down the policy during his first week in office, saying it was too broad and undermined family planning in developing countries.
Under Obama “our federal tax dollars can now be used to fund abortion all over the world. With the stroke of a pen, abortion essentially became a U.S. foreign export,” Perry said....[end excerpt]
And that latest little Perry scandal that came out this week, you can thank the Republican Attorney General for releasing the documents. I’m still not his biggest fan, but this is twice that he’s taken the side of taxpayers recently, so I’m starting to warm up to him. The company set up by Perry’s donor to get the millions in taxpayer dollars was fighting like mad to keep things quiet. Unfortunately they just received the rest of the millions this week!
Post one.
Really? Suggest away. It seems that I’ve provided arguments and you haven’t. You’ve done nothing but deflect.
You’re going to have to do better than that if you want to get anywhere promoting your corrupt candidate on Free Republic.
Here’s some cattle for ya:

From your LINK:
“....Perry, a conservative Christian who opposes abortion rights and stem- cell research using embryonic cells, counts on the religious right for his political base.
But he has said the cervical cancer vaccine is no different than the one that protects children against polio.
“If there are diseases in our society that are going to cost us large amounts of money, it just makes good economic sense, not to mention the health and well being of these individuals to have those vaccines available,” he said.
Texas allows parents to opt out of inoculations by filing an affidavit stating that he or she objected to the vaccine for religious or philosophical reasons. ...”
Thanks for this. I didn’t know about it. I’ll add it to the Perry stack I’m building.
At least you know who died by the end of the book, so you don’t reference them in your 10 page essay.
I'm here to talk about the money that the candidate you are pushing on Free Republic took from Merck right before MANDATING their vaccine for 6th graders.
I'll ask again: Do you condone corruption?
Ya got me there. :)
I watched the 6 minute video you provided the link for:
Perry on Gulianai:
Homeland security is not border security
Make choices for country at war.
Offers a better vision than another Clinton presidency
Combat - runaway taxation and open up path to growth
Prosecuting criminals and bring them to justice
Lowered taxes, increased growth, privatized and deregulated bureaucracy
His actions in that video were endorsing a pro-abortion, liberal Republican who would have appointed liberal justices to the Supreme Court.
Another poster made the point. You asked for a video. I provided it. Now, you're changing the subject again. Strange behavior on your part. Why?
Depends, the man has been for so much before he was against it no one knows what is real. Is he supporting toll roads today are is he against them?????
I really don’t like your attitude or your tone or your “in your face” posting.
I’ve made my points.
You’ve made yours but you seem hell bent on personally attacking me.
I suggest you want to deflect from what Rick Perry said in his speech.
Why not elaborate?
Don’t like my ‘tone’, eh? Well, I don’t like corrupt politicians and I like people who attempt to push them on this site even less.
So, now I’m personally attacking you? Just how am I doing that? I’ve asked you questions that you refuse to answer and you keep changing the subject. It won’t work.
Deflecting from his speech? That’s a laugh. Obama says pretty things too. Should we just believe those words or should we look at his actions?
‘..and his approach to immigration is noxious to me,’
Perry wants passage of a measure requiring every person arrested to be run through the federal immigration databases as part of the Secure Communities program. He also wants to provide the state Department of Public Safety with the authority to make sure someone is in the U.S. legally before issuing a drivers license.
These measures, along with a ban on sanctuary cities, would provide a clear message that Texas will not turn a blind eye to those breaking our laws, Perry said in a statement.
Texas owes it to the brave law enforcement officials, who put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and communities, to give them the discretion they need to adequately do their jobs, Perry said.

.Gov. Perry has made numerous requests of the federal govt. to enforce the border in Texas including handing Pre. Obama a letter in person when he landed in Dallas last year.
Signed into law, photo ID before voting.
WHAT HAS YOUR/OTHER GOVERNORS DONE?
.
SB1070. Maybe ya heard of it?
Perry opposed it.
