Issa asks THE question at 'gunwalker' hearing; anti-gunners scramble for excuses
St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 16 June, 2011 | Kurt Hofmann

Posted on 06/17/2011 5:08:34 AM PDT by marktwain

Recently, we discussed Congressman Darrell Issa's (R-CA) explanation of what this week's (and upcoming) "Project Gunwalker" hearings have been (and will be) about:

This is not a discovery process of what happened--we know what happened. We know that this administration, at the highest levels, approved a process that allowed thousands of high-powered weapons--basically AK-47 and M-16 look-alikes--to go to the worst of the worst on both sides of the borders, that those weapons have been used to commit crimes, and they have led to the death of federal agents on our side of the border, obviously, also Mexicans on their side of the border. This is known. The real question is what were they thinking.

Indeed--what were they thinking? In yesterday's hearing Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) Special Agent John Dodson (the first whistleblower to come forward publicly) and Special Agent Peter Forcelli made clear over and over again that the "gunwalking" had no value as a law enforcement tool, and no conceivable chance of attaining any value. One example, as Dodson explains to Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT):

Chaffetz: I mean, what was the goal here?

Dodson: Sir, I can tell you what I was told. I was told that the goal is to ultimately target and bring an entire cartel to prosecution.

Chaffetz: How were they going to do that? The suspected cartels were in Mexico, were they not?

Dodson: Yes sir, they were. I have no idea how they planned to do that by this operation, or how it was designed to function.

And in fact, no one can adequately begin to explain (or, really, even inadequately explain) how this was supposed to work. The described plan is, as we've discussed before, a drug cartel-busting strategy equivalent of the Underpants

"So finally, Congressman Issa came out and asked Special Agent Forcelli if the real objective might not be much more sinister (also in sidebar video):"

A lot of people have been complaining about Congressman Issa. This question shows that he has guts.

The administration doing a large scale ‘guns for dollars’ business out of the basement of the WH makes the North/Reagan enterprise look like a Girl Scout cookie sale.

When you are building a legal case, you cannot go from “A” to “B”...you have to take the long way around, blocking all the exits first, and then going to “B”....this is what Issa is doing, building a case and blocking the exits

That wasn’t the purpose of Gunwalker. Maybe the stated purpose, but not the real purpose. The real purpose was to convince the public that “crime guns” used in Mexico were long guns, sold in America, of the so-called “assault weapon” category, therefore, needing much stricter control of their sale and possession in the US. The dinosaur media played along, helpfully running stories about how porous the border was to such weapons, and expressing shock that such weapons were still “freely available” in US gun stores and gun shows, and that this was unacceptable.

They break their own laws, which they brutally enforce against the rest of us, in order to frame the “gun culture” in an excuse to abrogate Constitutional rights. In a just society, people would hang for this.

Interesting. I want to know more but I guess I might have to wait and see how it plays out.

Saved for later reading.

Please, anyone with comments on Issa's tactics / strategy, feel free to post.... Because I thought the only goal here was to find out how high the corruption goes, which is like catching a very slippery fish.

Reminds of the DEA letting drugs hit the streets so they could make a case. Or when the Sheriff’s Dept in Florida was making it’s own crack cocaine for buy and busts.

excellent summation

to what extent will this administration foster other criminal activity to discredit other opposition to its takeover of our country?

I like that analogy. And just where is Sarah Brady on all this? Another hypocrite.

"The question", BTW...

isn't the only thing you've proven is that guns in America go to Mexico? Now could that be a political decision?

I had to do some looking - thought I'd save a FReeper a moment - I'm nice that way ;)

If you really want to know what he is doing, watch Judge Judy....sometimes what she says and asks makes no sense, until she snaps the trap shut...then it all comes together

Or as Obama would say, “we are working on gun control under the radar.”

Guess they were not flying low enough. The quote should be thrown right back in his face.

If this was Bush, he already would have been tried, convicted and impeached on the front page of the NY Slimes.

See #4. To prove the real goal was instituting an AWB, Issa et al have to prove that nothing else was the goal. It is an extraordinary claim, and Issa is well on his way toward providing extraordinary evidence.

Yes they need to cut to the real reason. Gun control in America. I hope they can put Holder in Leavenworth for this. Give him Terry Lakin’s old cell.

This is HUGH and SERIES. It's getting to ...
'What did the President know and when did he know it?'
Barry will try to throw Holder under the bus but I don't think he'll go quietly. Holder's played 'house Negro' for the demoncRATS far too long -- like being the defacto AG under 'shakes' without any credit.

This US AG job is his big payoff for making BIG Money after politics. He won't step into that Orange Jumpsuit alone.

I'm of the same opinion.

There's more going on with this than just gun control.

They are destabilizing Mexico for a reason.

I lived in south Texas, Corpus Christi, in the 1980’s.

A lot of the Mexicans hated Reagan because they had dreams of a “Revolution” in Mexico during Peanuts second term. Reagan's election ended that dream.

The idea was to start a revolution in Mexico, the refugees would stream north into the southern US. After the revolution, Peanuts would return the southern part of the Us to Mexico.

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/US/06/14/mexico.guns/index.html?eref=edition

CNN article on a 'report' about guns in Mexico being from the US. There are other articles also popping up in the MSM on this, now.

I have a theory that this plan was put in place a few years ago to:

1. Gunwalk guns to Mexico

2. Have some bogus 'reports' saying stuff like most of the guns in Mexico are from the US, and increased gun violence, etc.

3. Gun control, (under the radar).

But they didn't see it blowing up in their faces. Stupid. It looks like they are still trying to make hay with the release of that 'report', though.

That wasn’t the purpose of Gunwalker. Maybe the stated purpose, but not the real purpose.

The "stated purpose" doesn't exactly hold water or look to good either.

Its like using a defense that says "Your honor, we only wanted to catch the rapist in the act, thats why we gave him keys to those young ladies home, we had no idea he would kill them.".

Just using the stated purpose, if, and its a big "If", you believe the administration, then that means, they, unwittingly, and unintentionally, committed an act of war against a country, they have gone out of the way to call an "important ally" and "trade partner".

And thats just on the surface, without going into the real purpose of this program or what we KNOW the administration was really planning. This, "stated purpose" is an impeachable offense.
