No longer constrained by campaign advisers who insisted on such conventions as message discipline, Gingrich fulminated against President Obama, the news media, activist judges and assorted other liberal bogeymen for 41 minutes here Thursday night.
It was classic Newt slashing attacks, an array of ideas, and a few plugs for his website. All jumbled together with little cohesion.
The former speaker, it seems, is very much enjoying the post-consultant phase of his candidacy.

Why do you let the media dictate who your candidate will be? Deep down, many of you LOVE Newt, but are afraid to support him. Get over it. Grow a set. Quit doing what the media wants you to do. Romney hasn't faced any resisence from the media, yet he is the frontrunner? Now.... why is that? You do the math.
Look at the field..... Romney and Pawlenty.... lame and lamer. Romney is hailed as the economic expert, but Newt's economic plan was just rated an 'A' from Investors Business Daily. And they say he: "put forth one of the most laudable economic plans in memory". Romney is weak on pretty much everything else. ....and Pawlenty is weaker.
Cain.... Right on issues, but clearly lacking depth. His "I'm a real black man" comment will crush him if he actually gets the nomination. Even Republicans will reject that garbage.
Bachmann...... pretty good, but will it last? Can she win independents? Newt will not only win independents, buy also Democrats. It remains to be seen with Bachmann.
Santorum.... fairly solid. But..... his ability to win over moderates and even Democrats is fairly limited. This run is great for his future, and might land him a VP slot, but his chances of winning the nomination are very slim.
Huntsman.... RINO
Ron Paul....... very good on financial stuff, naive on national security. Will never be more than a fringe contender.
Perry..... overrated at this point.
Gary Johnson.... please. Looked totally nervous and awkward in his first and last debate.
Palin..... right on issues, but like Cain..... lacking the depth. If you disagree, picture Newt and Palin on stage discussing a topic..... any topic..... for 2 hours straight. The lack of knowledge, understanding, and experience would be clearly evident. She might even pull out a pad & pencil, and start taking notes.
You are a coward if you are writing off Newt Gingrich this early. Look at what your candidate says, does, etc.... and compare them to what Newt says. They are inferior, and you know it. Go Newt!
1) social security
2) medicare
3) medicaide
4) unemployment insurance
5) HUD
6) Welfare (in ANY form)
7) National Labor Relations Board
8) bailout programs (of ANY sort)
9) Farm subsidies (of ANY sort)
that's a good start...
You’re nuts.
Gingrich has NO character. None.
He’s totally disgusting.
The Clintons had him knee before them, strap on kneepads and those pads are still there and worn to shreds, after traveling around this country with Hillary, speaking in favor of her health care plans.
Sitting on that sofa with Nancy Pelosi, spouting utter tripe about "GLOBAL WARMING", makes him a moron!
Long before any of that happened, when many were still enamored of him and he was flying high as the supposed "brilliant" conservative, he pushed the egregiously moronic Alvin Tolffer books; especially "THE THIRD WAVE". Having read all three books in the series long before Newtie ever mentioned them, I was appalled that he was praising them. And yes, I understood them all, so don't even attempt to try to belittle me in any way.
Newt V Palin? Newt wouldn't stop talking and Palin would get her poinst across in a sentence or two, that would make far more sense than anything Newtie would be blathering on about!
How do you feel about government assistance for severely disabled people - not just vets, but civilians too? Just curious.
On first glance all of those are “greatest generation” things aren’t they? All passed before the boomers and Reagan stopped the worst of things?
Newt has spent the last many years building a grass roots organization. It is rather impressive. It has a branch in my town of 15,000 that has already been successful at the city level.

Newt: Dead campaign walking
Who is your candidate?
You are overlooking Newt’s weaknesses as a leader. He just can’t stick with a few simple ideas like Reagan did. He would go into the leadership meetins with another bright idea rather than stick with the ones they were working on. Like Obama he is basically just a college professor. He has this huge stock of information and always has to put it on display. Compare him with Ryan who has worked years on this one thing and not only has a good mastery of it but can see the connection between things much better than Newt.
Newt’s not perfect, but he’s pretty damn awesome. RobbyS.... who is your candidate?
Newtie is “awesome” ONLY to those who are blinded by his copious spewings and completely disregard his true record.
Reagan campaigned on not being the “insider”; he was losing BIG time until he campaigned with Bush - quitessential insider - as VP.
Reagans’s principles went into the sewer shortly thereafter.
Whatever any candidate is capable of is evidenced by Reagan; checkout my tagline and you’ll see HOW doomed we are.
ALL of you guys proselytizing various candidates as more comservative than the other are highly amusing and entertaining.
Newt has ideas but an undisciplined mind.
He was in sum not very good in Monday’s debate. Palin has loads of successful executive experience, which Newt of course doesn’t have. He really doesn’t do the GOP any favors when he’s out in public talking about anything, let alone running anything.
Newt’s record is strongly conservative, and his presidential platform/proposals will have everyone from the Tea Party to blue dog Democrats cheering. If you buy the media spin, yeah.... Newt is a failure. Epic failure.
So nopadons..... who are you supporting?
I used to work in a mental hospital, I know about people that are “amused” by reality.
Does the Constitution say there’s a special class of people worthy of dole?
Indeed, I fear the carbon racket even more since Newt fell for the biggest corporate scam in human history.
He wrote himself off.
Newt is an old burn out.
I suggest that you read or reread my first post to you, digest it, and then come back to me to refute, if you can, what I posted.
Newtie was a terrific backbencher bomb thrower. As a "leader"..................he stunk !
Almost nobody is, nor shall they support Newt; especially NOT the Tea Partiers, most of whom know all about Newt, because they were old enough, back then, to remember every cave he made!
Do you even know about how he moaned and groaned and threw a hissy fit, to reporters, when on a trip with Clinton, because he didn't get to sit where he wanted to?
Do you even remember that he toured around with Bill Clinton for a few "talks" and wound up agreeing with everything Slick Willie said; so much so, that someone almost had to wipe the drool from Newtie's chins?
I'm a Palin supporter.
