Gov. Pat Quinn today signed a bill into law preventing state officials from putting their name or likeness on taxpayer funded signs.
The measure was a response to Gov. Rod Blagojevich's decision years ago to plaster his name on nearly three dozen signs on the Illinois Tollway at what Quinn said was a cost of almost $500,000.
"Sometimes there are those in politics and public office who want to glorify themselves at public expense, and I don't think that's right, I don't think the public feels that's what Democracy is about," Quinn said during bill signing ceremony at the Cermak Toll Plaza on Interstate 294, which used to display Blagojevich's name.
Lawmakers tried twice before to pass such a ban but failed. The measure goes into effect immediately, and expands on existing law that prohibits public officials from promoting themselves in public service announcements such as TV ads, bumper stickers and other promotional items for state services.

The last thing I want to be reminded of is that Pat Quinn is Governor
Governors do this in New York.
Republican Governors get their name on wooden signs. Sometimes the characters are engraved in the wood, then painted. Usually, it’s just paint.
Democrat Governors get their names on bronze plaques set on concrete plinths or carved stones.
Of course, there’s only been one Republican Governor in the last fourty years or so, so admittedly my sample size is small. That’s what I’ve observed around where I live.
No Blagojevich Boulevard?
I’d like to find a building somewhere that’s scheduled to be demolished and name it after 0bama.
There is only One politician from Illinois. The Won is the only one they need to concern themselves with.
guess that means Daley won’t put his name on Old Crooked Road, and Blago won’t get his name on Kickback Mountain.
There is a place at our farm where our dogs gravitate to drop the Obamas off in the yard. I refer to it as Obamaland.
I think all the streets in Chicago should be named Oprah Winfrey.
Pres Barack Obama Pkwy: All left turns.
