Romney says he's 'also unemployed' By Michael O'Brien - 06/16/11 01:04 PM ET

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) risked looking as though he had a tin ear when telling out-of-work Floridians Thursday that he's also unemployed.

Romney, a Republican presidential candidate and a millionaire many times over, sought to empathize with voters in Tampa facing economic hardship.

"I'm also unemployed," he said, as reported by the New York Times.

And Democrats pounced, calling Romney out-of-touch for his remarks.

“Mitt Romney’s comments today at an event with unemployed Floridians that he’s ‘also unemployed’ is inappropriate and insensitive to the millions of Americans looking for work, said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. "This comment shows that Mitt Romney – a man who wants for nothing and whose only occupation for more than four years has been to run for President - is incredibly out of touch with what’s going on in our country and around the dinner tables of those who are out of work."

Romney's made jobs and the economy a central focus of his presidential campaign, and he had been seeking to soothe the Florida voters in a campaign stop there.

But, perhaps mindful of the knock against his campaign in 2008 -- that he was too polished and upper-crust -- Romney's taken strides to appear more in-touch during this bid for the Republican nomination. He's shed ties and driven around Fords to campaign stops, many of which are at diners and more blue-collar backdrops.

This man is a fiction in his own mind. So, all you Romney bots think your man is a great GOP candidate because he:

1. Believes in state-provided health care. A system that’s failed every time it’s been tried. Even in Massachusettes where he enable it. Not to mention the program being used to make elitist politicians ever more powerful.

2. Believes in climate change—aka global warming. In his own words he said he can’t prove it exists, but he believes in it. What else does Romney believe in that he can’t prove? Ya know, we’re desperate for someone to bring some reality to the presidency. How exactly does Romney contribute to that end?

3. Unemployed. That’s like saying a retiree worth a couple billion dollars is unemployed. Whoever put that thought in Mitt’s head should be fired with malice. And Mitt should be fired with malice as well—whether for taking bad advice or coming up with this BS on his own. I wonder, too, what he’s been doing with all that campaign money he collected over the years.

It’s difficult for me to imagine this man running America let alone facing off with Putin, the Chinese or Islamo terrorists.

I now understand why Romney said nothing for two years after Onada usurped the WH. He’s an embarrassment and should find something else to do with his life except spend campaign monies collected from people who should know better.

I agree, it may have been a bit insensitive, but geez, I think most people know he doesn’t need to work, that he was referencing he would like to be employeed as POTUS, duh. Lighten up indeed. If he had held some office the anti-Romneybots here would have had him out faster than Weiner.

The man is just so awkward around humans.

Elves don't want anything to do with him, either. Can't speak for the trolls, though :p
