Romney says he's 'also unemployed' By Michael O'Brien - 06/16/11 01:04 PM ET
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) risked looking as though he had a tin ear when telling out-of-work Floridians Thursday that he's also unemployed.
Romney, a Republican presidential candidate and a millionaire many times over, sought to empathize with voters in Tampa facing economic hardship.
"I'm also unemployed," he said, as reported by the New York Times.
And Democrats pounced, calling Romney out-of-touch for his remarks.
Mitt Romneys comments today at an event with unemployed Floridians that hes also unemployed is inappropriate and insensitive to the millions of Americans looking for work, said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. "This comment shows that Mitt Romney a man who wants for nothing and whose only occupation for more than four years has been to run for President - is incredibly out of touch with whats going on in our country and around the dinner tables of those who are out of work."
Romney's made jobs and the economy a central focus of his presidential campaign, and he had been seeking to soothe the Florida voters in a campaign stop there.
But, perhaps mindful of the knock against his campaign in 2008 -- that he was too polished and upper-crust -- Romney's taken strides to appear more in-touch during this bid for the Republican nomination. He's shed ties and driven around Fords to campaign stops, many of which are at diners and more blue-collar backdrops.
I’d like Romney to STAY unemployed, thank you.
Shovel Ready Jobs.... HAHAHAH!!! Whhooooo that’s a hoot!
coming off yesterday’s story of how he faked getting pinched in the rump by a waitress,
///
yep. like the townhall type meeting he had, where he was without his jacket, and acted surprised that it had started.
...they really DO think we are dumb, and only care about guns and religion...
What does the MSM do about this? Report or ignore? He’s Republican, but he’s their pick. Help me, I’m new at this.
...and Hillary was "homeless".
There are no depths to which a politician will not descend in order to garner a single vote.
EPIC FAIL.
Oh please, you don’t have to enlighten me about Romney. I know where his place is on the “big lake” in NH and I’ve lived in Massachusetts where I voted for him becasue the Great Pumpkin Conservative never showed up. I suppose I could have stayed home and stroked my “principles” but I didn’t and I don’t plan to do so in 2012 either. I’ve been holding my nose and voting for over 30 years now. That’s a republic for you, if you can keep it.
myth is unemployed? GOOD!
Lets keep it that way.
I’m starting to dislike him. I wouldn’t mind if he declared himself a conservative Democrat and challenged Bambam.
A phony is a phony is a phony.
Are you quite sure you were directing that at me. I’m not trying to “enlighten [you] about Romney”, I’m pointing out a specific pattern of behavior that says that making this an issue is likely warranted. That’s all.
Vote for whom you wish. I, for one, will never vote for Romney, but I have the curse of living in a state that will have no impact on the result of the election anyway.
He’d probably win.
HEeeeeYUCK~! Good one, ‘Mitt’
LOL! I thought the same thing: John Kerry, part two. :)
Someone needs to tell Mittens that unless he’s applied for unemployment compensation, he doesn’t count!
Some how I don’t think Romney is lying awake at night wondering how he’s gonna feed the kids and make the mortgage.
Unemployed????? Boo hoo, poor Mitt! Maybe he should change his statis to “retired!”
“I’m also unemployed,” he said, as reported by the New York Times.
_____________-
And God willing, it’ll stay that way.
What’s hugh hewitt going to say about that???
Is mittens still driving around in his ‘pickup truck’, trying to show that he’s a regular guy?
Or he completely abandoned it?
