The reason Sarah quit the governorship was twofold. First and foremost, Sarah had done everything she said she would do when she ran for office. For what was left, her successor could be just as effective.

Exactly right. McCain thought he was the media’s darling too...until he won the nomination. All that press preening, wasted effort.
