Sometimes big deals get little play, unless you follow social media.
It seems some federal agents last week broke down a California man's door and removed him and his three children, ages 3, 7 and 11.
According to News10/KXTV in Stockton, Calif., a SWAT team around 6 a.m. Tuesday broke down Kenneth Wright's door, removed him and his children, and searched the house.
As it turns out, according to the report, they were from the U.S. Department of Education attempting to collect on his wife's defaulted student loan.
"The U.S. Department of Education issued the search and called in the SWAT for his wife's defaulted student loans. 'They busted down my door for this,' Wright said. 'It wasn't even me.'
"According to the Department of Education's Office of the Inspector General, the case can't be discussed publicly until it is closed, but a spokesperson did confirm that the department did issue the search warrant at Wright's home."

Wow, a stern chiding ... let’s hope they don’t need to escalate to using capitalization and bolding in a terse warning letter.
Why isn’t the person responsible losing their job?
The article implies that the woman was supposed to be raided for defaulting on student loans - that isn't accurate. She was supposed to be raided on suspicion of running a student loan fraud ring.
My lone foray into social media is Free Republic but isn't this the primordial blog? The blog before the evolution of web logs? And, therefore, isn't Jim the original Blog Father.
Where does FR differ from other blogs?
Let’s start with “FR is not a blog” as in web log; it is a forum. I’ll let others take it from there. You might also want to do a keyword search on “lore” to further your FR education.
Student loans used to be mostly issued by private banks and loan companies, and insured by the government.
It was Obama who federalized ALL of the loans. Could this be one of his reasons? So he could break down almost any door in the country, since almost every family has an outstanding education loan at this point?
Even if someone isn’t behind on his payments, they can order a little bureaucratic “mistake.”
Control, control, control.
I'll second the motion and make a new tag line.
We just had a similar incident in Pittsburgh. The FBI kicked in a door and raided a house looking for a gang member who had moved out 16 months ago.
The family is suing, and in the suit they named the leader of the FBI SWAT team, and her name is now all over the front pages.
Sounds like a career-ender for her if nothing else.
Career ending ... so now her pension starts today.
There are some similarities but blogs usually carry posts of a single author. FR threads are generated by any registered member.
Wow. This makes me all the more thrilled that I went thru pre-paid tuition program in my state. My kids will not have student loans, should be able to graduate without SL debt. Therefore the Feds will need some other pretext to knock down their doors and/or mine. Maybe this posting will provide them that pretext?
.
I actually had a job when I was in college, and paid for a significant portion of my tuition. My parents made up the rest. No debt here, either.
And the dingos really did eat your babies? (Sigh).
No, it’s just a joke. The reality is I was raised by dingos.
Ah, a "student loan fraud ring."
And just where did you get that information?
